The Spanish national team is vying for a place in the World Cup final against France, and Gran Canaria is responding with giant screens in seven municipalities. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde, Gáldar, Valsequillo, Mogán, and San Bartolomé de Tirajana have already confirmed their meeting points.
The World Cup semifinal between Spain and France has mobilised the municipalities of Gran Canaria, which have organised giant screens in at least seven municipalities so that fans can follow the match live. The event is this Wednesday at 21:00, and the island is preparing for a night of football and festive atmosphere.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Returns to Schamann
The capital of Gran Canaria will once again install a giant screen in Plaza Don Benito, in the Schamann neighbourhood, where hundreds of people gathered during the quarter-finals. The City Council expects a massive turnout and recommends arriving early to secure a good spot.
Access will be free, and the area will be open one hour before the match starts. Local residents will be able to watch the game outdoors, with bar service and portable toilets, as reported by the City Council.
Telde, Gáldar, and Valsequillo Join the Celebration
In Telde, the Plaza de San Gregorio will host the broadcast, as it did in the previous round. The City Council will repeat the initiative after the successful turnout, which gathered over 2,000 people.
In the north of the island, Gáldar will set up its screen at the Recinto Cultural La Quinta, a covered space that guarantees projection even in case of rain. Meanwhile, Valsequillo has chosen the Plaza de La Barrera, where a large participation from local residents is expected.
The South Also Thrills: Arguineguín and Maspalomas
On the southern coast, fans can gather in Arguineguín, between Plaza Negra and Calle José Manuel Santana, where an outdoor screen will be set up. The Mogán City Council has confirmed that traffic will be cut off in the area to ensure the safety of attendees.
In Maspalomas, the meeting point will be the Mercado del Nomad, in Holiday World, a space that combines leisure and gastronomy. There, supporters can enjoy the match with live music and special offers on food and drinks.
Tips for Enjoying the Semifinal
Authorities recommend wearing comfortable clothing and bringing water, especially in outdoor locations where night temperatures can be cool. All venues will have capacity control, and attendees will be asked to maintain civic behaviour to avoid incidents.
For those unable to attend, the match can also be followed on free-to-air television via RTVE and streamed on the RTVE Play platform. However, nothing compares to experiencing it in company: Gran Canaria's red tide promises to fill every corner of the island with passion.
