A 48-year-old woman suffered moderate multiple contusions after leaving the road in the south of La Palma. She was taken to the General Hospital of La Palma.
A motorcyclist was injured on Saturday night after leaving the road on the highway connecting Los Llanos de Aridane with Fuencaliente, in the south of La Palma. The accident occurred shortly after eleven at night when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a curve in the municipality of Los Llanos.
The Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands received the alert at 23:18 on Saturday, July 11. A call reported that a motorcyclist needed medical assistance after leaving the roadway. Immediately, 1-1-2 mobilised a medical ambulance and another basic life support ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), as well as Civil Guard personnel.
Medical assistance at the accident site
The emergency services quickly arrived at the accident site, on the road linking Los Llanos de Aridane with Fuencaliente, one of the busiest roads in the Aridane Valley. Medical personnel assessed the woman, who had moderate multiple contusions, with no threat to her life. After stabilising her, she was transported by medical ambulance to the General Hospital of La Palma.
The Civil Guard took charge of the report to clarify the causes of the accident. According to sources from the investigation, there were no other vehicles involved or additional injuries. The motorcyclist was travelling alone at the time of the incident.
A road with constant traffic in the south of La Palma
The road where the accident occurred is a key route for mobility in the south of the island, connecting Los Llanos de Aridane with Fuencaliente. This section, with curves and slopes, is frequented by both residents and tourists heading to the beaches and leisure areas in the south. Local residents recall that this is not the first time a vehicle has left the road at this point, although the emergency report does not detail whether there were external factors such as the condition of the asphalt or visibility.
For drivers who travel this road daily, the accident serves as a reminder of the importance of exercising caution, especially at night. The SUC recommends reducing speed on curves and maintaining a safe distance, especially on a motorcycle, where the risk of injury is greater.
The General Hospital of La Palma, in Santa Cruz de La Palma, is the referral centre for the island. The motorcyclist was admitted with a reserved prognosis, although health sources indicate that the multiple contusions are moderate and a favourable evolution is expected. No information has been provided regarding her identity or place of residence.
