A 45-year-old man was seriously injured after being stabbed in the chest during a brawl at a shopping centre in Morro Jable. The other individual, with moderate injuries, was taken to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura.

A brawl that occurred shortly after 05:30 on Sunday at a shopping centre in Morro Jable has left two men injured by a knife, one of them seriously. The incident mobilised several emergency teams, including a medical helicopter that evacuated the most critical injured person to the Gran Canaria Insular Hospital.

According to the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (Cecoes), the seriously injured man had a penetrating wound to the chest, while the second victim suffered moderate injuries. Both were stabilised at the local health centre before being transferred.

Medical helicopter evacuation

The patient with more serious injuries was evacuated by SUC medical helicopter to the Gran Canaria Insular Hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition. The other injured man, with moderate injuries, was taken by ambulance to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura.

The emergency call to 112 Canarias alerted about a violent brawl inside a shopping centre in Morro Jable, in the municipality of Pájara. Emergency services including the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), Pájara Firefighters, and Local Police were dispatched to the scene.

Investigation opened by the Guardia Civil

The Guardia Civil has taken charge of the investigation and is trying to clarify the reasons that triggered the fight. So far, no arrests have been made, and they are continuing to gather testimonies and review the security camera footage from the shopping centre.

Local residents, especially those living near the shopping centre, expressed their shock at the incident.

“It’s a quiet area, we’ve never seen anything like this,” said a witness.
The brawl, which lasted only a few minutes, prompted a swift response from emergency services.

The General Hospital of Fuerteventura confirmed that the moderately injured man is progressing well, while the patient admitted in Gran Canaria remains in the Intensive Care Unit, although his condition is stable despite being serious.

The Pájara City Council has expressed concern over the incident and has offered to cooperate with the Guardia Civil to clarify the facts. The mayor, in statements to the media, assured that surveillance in the commercial area will be reinforced.

The events took place at the Morro Jable shopping centre, a spot frequented by tourists and residents. The Local Police have established a security perimeter during the early hours of the morning to facilitate investigation efforts.

This incident raises the alert regarding violence in public spaces on the island. So far this year, several similar incidents have been reported in nightlife areas, although authorities insist that the crime rate in Fuerteventura remains below the regional average.

More details about the progress of the investigation are expected to be provided by the Guardia Civil in the coming hours. Meanwhile, the two injured individuals remain hospitalised, and the public is advised to avoid spreading unconfirmed rumours about what happened.
