Two people were injured by a knife in the early hours of this Sunday in Morro Jable, Pájara. One of them, with a serious chest wound, was airlifted to the Insular Hospital of Gran Canaria.

The early hours of this Sunday were disrupted in the south of Fuerteventura by a knife fight on the Avenida del Saladar, in the commercial area of Morro Jable, municipality of Pájara. The incident, which occurred around 05:38 hours, mobilised multiple emergency resources following the alert received by the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands.

According to information provided by the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), two men were affected. The first sustained moderate knife wounds, with no initial complications, and was transported by medicalised ambulance to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura. The second, more seriously injured, suffered a penetrating wound to the chest also caused by a knife, which necessitated his evacuation by medicalised helicopter to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria.

Emergency deployment in Morro Jable

The operation was activated immediately. A medicalised ambulance, a medicalised helicopter, and a basic life support ambulance from the SUC were dispatched to the scene, along with members of the Local Police, the Civil Guard, and Pájara Firefighters. The injured were initially stabilised at the local health centre before being transferred.

The rapid intervention allowed the most seriously affected individual to be evacuated from the helipad in Morro Jable to Gran Canaria, where he was admitted to the Insular Hospital. The other injured person remains hospitalised at the General Hospital of Fuerteventura, with a reserved prognosis but out of immediate danger.

Ongoing investigation and call for cooperation

The Civil Guard has taken charge of the proceedings to clarify what happened. For the moment, the causes of the fight are unknown, as is whether the individuals involved knew each other beforehand. Officers are working to identify potential witnesses and review security cameras in the area.

From 1-1-2, they remind the importance of reporting any violent incident and not attempting to mediate in fights. For residents and tourists of Morro Jable, the affected area — Avenida del Saladar — is a busy commercial zone, especially on weekends. Authorities recommend exercising extreme caution and, in any suspicious situation, calling the emergency phone number.

The incident has raised concerns among residents of Pájara, a tourist municipality that, until now, had not recorded incidents of this severity this year. Investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances and, if necessary, locate those responsible.
