The second edition of the Cortonaos Film Festival La Palma will take place from August 3 to 9 in Puerto Naos, featuring short film screenings, music, gastronomy, and marine awareness activities. The Town Hall of Los Llanos de Aridane, the Cabildo, and Sodepal support the event.

The Cortonaos short film festival returns to the coast of Los Llanos de Aridane with a programme that combines outdoor cinema, concerts, a local market, and environmental activities. The event, which will take place from August 3 to 9 in Puerto Naos, aims to establish this tourist spot as a cultural and leisure hub during the summer.

A festival that revitalises Puerto Naos

The mayor of Los Llanos de Aridane, Javier Llamas, highlighted during the presentation at the Meliá La Palma Hotel that Cortonaos was born with the intention of contributing to the revitalisation of the coastal neighbourhood. “Puerto Naos has regained its everyday life, and Cortonaos has also been part of that journey,” he stated. The mayor emphasised that the festival turns the area into a large open film set for residents and visitors.

The councillor for Culture, Marlene González, praised the work of the festival director, Beatriz Gómez, and recalled that the CORTONAOS Section is dedicated to works filmed in Puerto Naos, while the Official Section is divided into International, National, and Canary categories. “It allows citizens to enjoy productions from different parts of the world and participate with their own works,” she affirmed.

Institutional and economic support

The councillor for Culture and Economic Promotion of the Cabildo of La Palma and managing director of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, highlighted that the festival attracts audiences to one of the island's main tourist spots, generating activity in local businesses. “All of this through a sector that is gaining more and more weight in the island's economy: the audiovisual,” she added. The event is supported by the Town Hall, the Cabildo, and Sodepal.

The programme includes outdoor screenings on the beach and promenade, as well as a local commerce market and a gastronomic area featuring products from La Palma. Activities related to coastal care have also been planned, in line with raising awareness about the conservation of seas and coasts.

Film, music, and gastronomy for everyone

For a week, Puerto Naos will become a cultural meeting point. In addition to short films, there will be concerts, crafts, and activities for the whole family. The festival opts for an outdoor format to take advantage of the surroundings and bring cinema closer to a diverse audience. Interested parties can check the participation guidelines and the complete programme on the festival's official website.

With this second edition, Cortonaos aims to establish itself as a reference in the cultural calendar of La Palma, combining the seventh art with the economic and social boost of the area. The organisation hopes to surpass last year's reception and consolidate Puerto Naos as a stage for cinema, music, and local flavours.
