The Cabildo of La Palma has prepared a special arrangement with extra buses and a security operation for the Water Festival in Puerto Naos, which takes place this Saturday, July 18.
The Water Festival in Puerto Naos, one of the most anticipated events of the summer in La Palma, will feature a boost in public transport and a comprehensive security operation this Saturday, July 18. The island's Cabildo has coordinated a comprehensive plan to ensure the mobility and safety of the thousands of attendees expected on the coast of Valle de Aridane.
More buses to avoid traffic jams
The island's Councillor for Transport and Emergencies, Darwin Rodríguez, has announced that the regular public transport service will maintain all its usual schedules. Additionally, extra trips will be made available on line 24, which connects the Valley with Puerto Naos, within its normal itinerary and schedule.
Rodríguez has called for planning:
These extra buses will be provided solely and exclusively within the regular time frame of the line. As no additional journeys are planned for early morning or outside of this schedule, all travellers are strongly advised to plan their journeys and returns well in advance. The measure aims to prevent the saturation of private vehicles and expedite travel to the coast.
Coordinated security operation
In parallel, the Cabildo has established a logistical and public safety operation to cover the festive day. The Island Operational Coordination Centre (Cecopin) and the Emergency Department will supervise the event in real time. Firefighters will also be deployed in Puerto Naos for preventive tasks.
The island personnel will work hand in hand with the State Security Forces and Corps, the Canary Police, and the Local Police. The aim is to prevent incidents, control access, and ensure rapid assistance in case of any eventuality.
The Cabildo has made a call for civic responsibility:
We invite residents and visitors to enjoy the Water Festival with civility, caution, and to cooperate at all times with the instructions of the authorities and security forces.
For the residents of La Palma, this festival is a summer classic, but also a logistical challenge. Last year, the massive turnout clogged access points, so this year there has been a push for a boost in public transport. Those opting to drive will need to get up early or seek alternatives, as the operation aims to reduce private traffic.
The Water Festival is known for its family atmosphere and water games on the beach. Attendees should wear comfortable clothing and sun protection, and above all, respect the instructions of the emergency services. The Cabildo reminds that the operation will be active from early morning until the end of the day.
