The island corporation has opened a new deadline, until July 30, to award the improvement works for the LP-217 and LP-2172 roads in Villa de Mazo, with an investment of €1,260,001.39 financed by the FDCAN.
The Cabildo of La Palma has launched a new call to award the improvement works for the LP-217 and LP-2172 roads, which provide access to La Salemera and the Environmental Complex of Los Morenos, in Villa de Mazo. The deadline for submitting bids ends on July 30, and the budget amounts to €1,260,001.39, financed through the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).
This is not the first time this project has gone out to tender. In mid-June, the Cabildo published a similar tender with a deadline of June 17, but the process was not awarded. A month and a half later, the island corporation has opted to restart the procedure without providing explanations for the initial failure.
The project includes works on two roads affected by heavy rains. On the LP-217, a new structure will be built over the La Chíchara ravine, while on the LP-2172, two drainage works will be carried out and the layout will be modified at the crossings with the La Jurada and La Lava ravines. These actions aim to prevent flooding from cutting off access, a recurring problem in the area.
The importance of these roads transcends the local level. The LP-2172 connects the coastal area of La Salemera with the Environmental Complex of Los Morenos, the facility where waste from the entire island of La Palma is processed. Therefore, any interruption in access affects not only the residents of Villa de Mazo but also the waste management service for the entire island.
The president of the Cabildo, Sergio Rodríguez, has emphasized that the action responds to a clear need: to improve roads that are used daily by both residents and vehicles accessing the environmental complex. For his part, the Infrastructure Councillor, Darwin Rodríguez, has pointed out that both roads face problems during heavy rains, so the goal is to resolve these critical points to ensure safe access.
“When administrations work together, it is possible to respond more effectively to the real needs of citizens,” stated the mayor of Villa de Mazo, Idafe Hernández, who thanked the collaboration of the Cabildo and framed the work as part of the modernization of the municipality's road network.
Interested companies can submit their bids through the Public Sector Contracting Platform until July 30. It is expected that, after the award, the works will begin in the coming months, although the Cabildo has not provided a specific timeline. The investment, exceeding €1.2 million, is aimed at resolving drainage issues and improving road safety on access routes that are strategic for the island.
