The island of La Palma kicks off the week with a fully summery atmosphere. Temperatures will reach 34 degrees in the midlands and high areas, while the coasts remain cooler due to the trade winds.
La Palma is preparing for a Monday of intense heat, with temperatures nearing 34 degrees in areas above 600 meters in altitude. The dry and warm air mass affecting the island from early on creates a strong thermal contrast between the high altitudes and the coastline.
According to Meteo Isla Bonita, the municipalities most affected by this thermal rise will be Puntagorda, Garafía, Tijarafe, and El Paso, as well as the high areas of Mazo and Fuencaliente. In these areas, the thermometer will easily surpass 30 degrees, reaching peaks of up to 34 °C in the highest points.
Thermal contrast between coast and interior
While the heat intensifies in the midlands, the eastern and northern coasts remain under the refreshing effect of the trade winds. There, temperatures will range between 24 and 26 degrees, providing a respite for those seeking a more temperate environment.
In the Valle de Aridane, on the other hand, thermometers will register between 28 and 30 degrees in the lower areas, a notable figure but still far from the records of the peaks. The contrast will be especially visible during the central hours of the day.
Clear skies with no rain in sight
Atmospheric stability will be the general trend across the island. Skies will remain mostly clear throughout the day, with only some intervals of low clouds on the eastern coast during the early hours and high clouds without consequences at sunset.
The probability of rain is nil. The dry atmosphere and absence of disturbances cut off any chance of precipitation, meaning outdoor plans will not be disrupted by rain. Farmers, however, should remain vigilant: the combination of heat and dry air increases evapotranspiration, so it is advisable to water during the less sunny hours to avoid losses.
Wind and sea: two sides of the coin
The wind will blow from the northeast, with moderate intensity on the eastern and northern facades of the island, and stronger gusts at the extremes. On the western slope, the orography acts as a screen, leaving a calm atmosphere or very light local breezes.
The state of the sea also presents two very different realities. On the eastern and northern coasts, there will be a slight swell to moderate waves, with waves between 1 and 1.5 meters. In contrast, on the west coast, the sea will be completely calm, practically flat or rippled, making it an ideal setting for swimming at beaches like Puerto Naos or Tazacorte.
For residents and visitors, the advice is clear: hydration, sun protection, and, if possible, seeking shade during the central hours. In the midlands, it is better to avoid intense physical activities until the sun gives a break. And those wanting to take a dip should head to the west coast: there the sea awaits them in calm.
