Avenida Marítima and Avenida de los Indianos will be closed to traffic on Saturday, July 11 from 1 PM to 4 PM. TILP lines 12 and 100 will modify their routes during this time.

Next Saturday, July 11, drivers and public transport users in Santa Cruz de La Palma will face significant restrictions. Vehicle circulation will be completely prohibited on Avenida Marítima and Avenida de los Indianos for three hours, between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. The affected section on Avenida Marítima runs from the junction with Avenida El Puente to Avenida de Las Nieves.

The transport company TILP, which manages the regular lines on the island, has announced modifications to two of its routes to ensure passenger mobility. The changes affect lines 12 and 100, which will alter their usual itinerary during the closure.

Line 12: diversion towards Benahoare

According to TILP, line 12 heading from Hospital to Urbanización Benahoare will modify its route just after leaving Avenida de Los Indianos. Instead of following its usual path, the bus will ascend Avenida El Puente directly towards Urbanización Benahoare. Users of this line should be aware that intermediate stops may not be the usual ones.

For local residents, this represents a minor inconvenience, but the company assures that an alternative route has been designed to minimise disruption. It is advisable to plan the journey in advance to avoid unnecessary waits.

Line 100: departure from the Circumvallation

Line 100, which connects Santa Cruz de La Palma with Barlovento, will also undergo changes. The departure, which usually takes place from Avenida de Los Indianos, will now occur from the Circumvallation road. Once this section is passed, the service will continue its usual route through Urbanización Benahoare and Las Explanadas, heading north.

This modification mainly affects travellers boarding in the city centre. For them, the pick-up point will be different, so it is advisable to check updated schedules on the TILP website or at official stops. The company has indicated that the rest of the route remains unchanged, so once the diversion is passed, the bus will continue its normal path.

Advice for citizens

In light of these closures, the Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council recommends that drivers seek alternative routes and avoid the affected area during the closure hours. For public transport users, the most sensible approach is to check updated schedules and, if possible, advance or delay the journey to avoid coinciding with the closure window.

This measure responds to a temporary restriction unspecified by the authorities, but which necessitates reconfiguring mobility in the city centre. Residents of Urbanización Benahoare and surrounding areas will benefit most from the diversions, as buses will pass closer to their homes during those hours. Something is better than nothing.

In any case, the recommendation is clear: patience and foresight. On Saturday, from 1 PM to 4 PM, Santa Cruz de La Palma will experience a bit of traffic chaos, but with the announced changes, buses will continue to operate. Not bad for an island where time sometimes seems to stand still.
