Visocan has awarded the drafting of the project to build another 200 protected homes in the Maneje neighbourhood, in Arrecife. The Lanzarote-based studio Isoc Estudio will be responsible for the design, while the construction works will be put out to tender by the end of 2026.

The public company Visocan has taken a firm step to expand the stock of protected housing in Arrecife. This Monday, Mayor Yonathan de León announced the awarding of the project for the construction of 200 new public homes in the Maneje neighbourhood, on land ceded by the City Council.

The task has been entrusted to Isoc Estudio, an architecture and engineering firm based in Lanzarote. The design phase will define the buildings, which will then be put out to public tender for construction.

Over 400 homes in the same area

This development adds to the 201 protected homes that Visocan is already executing in Maneje. According to the planning, those first homes are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The Government of the Canary Islands plans to tender the construction of the new three buildings by the end of 2026, once the project is completed. If the deadlines are met, the total number of public homes in this area will exceed 400.

For the residents of Arrecife, this represents a real opportunity to access affordable housing. The developments are aimed at resident families who have been waiting for a housing solution for years.

Municipal land, key to development

The mayor highlighted that the cession of land by the City Council has been fundamental. "Without available land, there is no possible housing," De León pointed out, recalling that Arrecife is the only municipality in Lanzarote where public housing developments have been initiated.

The initiative is part of the housing plan of the Canary Government, which aims to alleviate the housing deficit in the islands. In Lanzarote, tourism pressure and rising rental costs have driven up the demand for protected housing.

Those interested in applying for these homes should keep an eye on upcoming announcements. Visocan will publish the access requirements when the project is further along. For now, the focus is on waiting for the architects to put the design of the new homes on paper.
