The Cabildo of Lanzarote presents a cultural programme for July with more than a dozen proposals including the musical 'Víctor', the Canarias Jazz & Más Festival, the Lava Live Fest 2026, and screenings of classic cinema.
The Councillor for Culture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jesús Machín Tavío, has unveiled the cultural programme for July, a month that promises to transform the island into a vibrant stage. The agenda combines musical shows, established festivals, auteur cinema, and workshops, aiming to bring culture to all audiences and corners of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
A musical pays tribute to Víctor Fernández Gopar, 'El Salinero'
On July 10 and 11, the Auditorio de Jameos del Agua will host 'Víctor', a musical that explores the life and legacy of Víctor Fernández Gopar, known as El Salinero. The work combines live music, theatre, and a carefully crafted staging to highlight the memory and tradition of Lanzarote.
The show draws inspiration from the journey of the poet and salt worker from Janubio, reclaiming his contribution to the preservation of customs and Canarian identity. For the island's residents, it is an opportunity to rediscover a key figure of their intangible heritage.
Canarias Jazz & Más celebrates its 35th edition
The International Canarias Jazz & Más Festival reaches its 35th edition and on July 17 will take place at El Almacén with a double session. The Xavi Torres Trio will perform alongside saxophonist Miguel Zenón, one of the most influential figures in jazz, and the Marco Mezquida Trio, which will present Táctil, a work that transforms music into a physical and sensory experience.
The festival, which attracts fans from all over the Canary Islands every summer, reinforces its commitment to quality and diversity of styles. Tickets are already available on the Cabildo's website.
Lava Live Fest 2026: Juan Luis Guerra and Nicky Jam headline
Live music will have its grand event with the Lava Live Fest 2026, which will celebrate two days in Arrecife on July 24 and 25. The festival brings together national and international artists such as Juan Luis Guerra, Nicky Jam, Nathy Peluso, Ana Mena, and Juanma Restrepo, among others.
The event has established itself as one of the major musical highlights of the summer in the Canary Islands. Last year, it attracted over 20,000 attendees, and forecasts for this edition indicate a complete sell-out. Passes are already on sale.
Classic cinema and literature with a contemporary perspective
The film programme for July includes a very special screening. On July 11, Cine Club Lanzarote will showcase Grand Canary (1934), a Hollywood production set in the Canary Islands. The session will feature researcher Gonzalo M. Pavés, author of Un paraíso herido, and historian José Antonio Ribas, who will analyse how cinema has represented the Archipelago.
In the literary realm, on July 24, La condena de las Torres Bellas, the new work by Vivien Déniz, will be presented at El Almacén. The event will combine reading, conversation, and performance, inviting reflection on identity and dissent from a contemporary perspective.
Drawing workshops for all levels
The cultural offering is completed with two artistic training workshops at El Almacén. Notably, there is a new edition of the contemporary drawing workshop coordinated by David Machado, focused on experimentation and the development of collective projects. Registration is free and open on the Cabildo's website.
Jesús Machín Tavío has stated that "the agenda once again offers proposals for very diverse audiences, reinforcing the Cabildo's commitment to accessible, quality culture present in various spaces across Lanzarote and La Graciosa." Those interested can consult the complete programme and schedules on the official Culture page of the Cabildo.
