From July 11 to 12, Arrecife becomes the world capital of crossfit with 200 competitors from 13 nationalities. The event, held at Islote de la Fermina, Playa de El Reducto, and Puerto Deportivo de La Marina, distributes nearly €5,000 in prizes.
Arrecife is preparing to host one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year: the Lanzarote Summer Challenge 2026, which will bring together 200 athletes from 13 countries from July 11 to 12. The competition, organised by CrossFit Lanzarote, has become an international benchmark for outdoor crossfit, with settings that combine sand, sea, and asphalt.
A Historic Edition with 13 Nationalities
For the first time, the tournament features participants from Finland, Argentina, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, France, Italy, Norway, Ireland, Antigua and Barbuda, Lithuania, Croatia, Portugal, and Japan. This diversity makes the 2026 edition the most international in its history, according to the organisers.
Of the more than 800 initial applicants, only 200 have secured a place to compete in the RX, Intermediate, Scale, and Master categories. All will be mixed teams, a commitment to gender equality that already makes the Lanzarote Summer Challenge the first crossfit competition in Spain with an equal number of men and women.
Record Prizes and Live Streaming
The 2026 edition also stands out for its financial prize pool: nearly €5,000 in cash distributed among all categories. It is one of the few crossfit events in Spain that awards money at all levels, not just to the elite.
Another novelty will be the live streaming of the events and replays through a mobile app and a giant screen installed at the venue. Attendees will be able to follow the ranking evolution and the excitement of each exercise in real time.
Tourism and Sports Impact in Lanzarote
The event, sponsored by the Government of the Canary Islands through Promotur, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, and the City Council of Arrecife, reinforces the island's image as a European sports destination. The European Sport Destination (ESD) brand promotes this event that attracts visitors from all over the world.
For the residents of Arrecife, the competition means a weekend full of activity at three iconic locations: Islote de la Fermina, Playa de El Reducto, and Puerto Deportivo de La Marina. Access to the competition areas will be free, allowing residents and tourists to enjoy the spectacle at no cost.
The organisers recommend arriving early to find parking and following the directions of the volunteers. The schedule of the events will be published soon on the official event website.
