The Cabildo of La Gomera has opened the registration period for the XXXI Triathlon Isla de La Gomera, which will take place in San Sebastián on August 29. The event, in sprint format, will host the Canary Islands Series and the Canary Islands Championship by age groups.
The Cabildo of La Gomera, in collaboration with Top Time Eventos and the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation (FECANTRI), opened the registration period this Saturday for the XXXI Triathlon Isla de La Gomera. The sporting event will take place on August 29 at 17:30 in the island's capital, San Sebastián de La Gomera.
The race will be held in individual sprint format, starting with 750 meters of swimming in the bay of San Sebastián. Participants will then cover 20 kilometers by bicycle between the Rotonda de Inta and the El Camello viewpoint, finishing with a 5-kilometer run along the seafront promenade.
A demanding course in a privileged setting
The design of the circuit aims to combine an accessible sporting challenge with the spectacular landscape of La Gomera. The swimming takes place in open waters of the bay, while the cycling segment travels along a road that offers views of the ocean and cliffs. The completely flat running course runs alongside the sea, allowing runners to enjoy the coastal atmosphere.
According to the organisers, the course is designed for both experienced triathletes and those new to the discipline. The sprint distance is the most common in popular events and allows participants to complete the course in approximately an hour and a half, depending on each individual's level.
Participation open to federated and non-federated athletes
The competition is open to athletes aged 15 and over, both federated and non-federated. Non-federated participants will have accident insurance included in their registration, a measure aimed at facilitating the participation of enthusiasts. Minors must present a signed authorization when collecting their race number.
This edition has an added incentive: it hosts the Canary Islands Triathlon Series and the Canary Islands Championship by age groups. This makes the event a key date for triathletes from the islands, who will earn points for their regional rankings. For local fans, seeing the best athletes from the Canary Islands competing at home is an extra motivation.
The Sports Councillor of the Cabildo, who participated in the presentation, highlighted that “La Gomera is consolidating itself as a reference sports destination in the Canary Islands, and this triathlon is a testament to that.”
Online registrations until August 24
Registrations are conducted exclusively online through the link provided by the organisers. The registration period will remain open until August 24, five days before the event. The fees are 35 euros for federated athletes and 40 euros for non-federated athletes, plus an additional euro for management costs.
For the residents of La Gomera, this event represents an opportunity to participate in a top-level sporting event without leaving the island. Furthermore, the triathlon generates significant economic activity in San Sebastián, with the arrival of participants and companions from other islands. Hotels and restaurants in the capital usually experience high occupancy during that weekend.
The organisers recommend registering in advance, as places are limited and previous editions have sold out before the deadline. Race numbers will be distributed on the day of the event, starting at 15:00, in the starting area.
With 31 editions behind it, the Triathlon Isla de La Gomera has earned its place in the Canary Islands sporting calendar. Beyond the competition, the event is a celebration of sport that brings together families, fans, and volunteers. Those who do not wish to compete can always head to the seafront promenade to cheer on the participants and enjoy the atmosphere.
