The Sports Centre of El Paso will host the fifth edition of La Palma Summer-Con from August 21 to 23, featuring 24-hour camps, video game tournaments, and the only K-Pop camp in the Canary Islands.
La Palma Summer-Con returns to El Paso for the fifth consecutive year with an offering that combines video games, K-Pop, cosplay, and Asian culture. The event, which will take place from August 21 to 23 at the Sports Centre of El Paso, includes a retro gaming zone as the main new feature this year.
24-Hour Camps: LAN Party and K-Pop
The most distinctive feature of the fair is its two youth leisure camps. The LAN Party zone allows attendees to bring their own computers and consoles to enjoy tournaments and uninterrupted internet access 24 hours a day. Those who choose this option will be able to enter a day earlier, on Thursday, August 20.
On the other hand, the K-Pop camp, the only one in the Canary Islands, will offer dance workshops, masterclasses, and social activities for dance enthusiasts. Both camps include a rest area with personal hygiene facilities, allowing participants to make the most of the experience without leaving the venue.
A Fair for All Ages: Tournaments, Artists, and Merchandising
The technology fair will open its doors from August 21 to 23 with activities for all ages. There will be board games, craft workshops, and cosplay and K-Pop contests. In the video game section, competitions will be held for League of Legends, Valorant, Fortnite, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. As a new feature, this year a retro gaming area has been added to reminisce about classic titles.
The Artist Alley space will serve as a showcase for local creators to promote and sell their exclusive prints and stickers. Additionally, a commercial stands area will offer merchandising from series, movies, and video games.
Economic and Youth Boost in El Paso
The president of the Cabildo of La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, highlighted that "year after year, this event has established itself as the favourite date for many people, regardless of their age, as its dynamic activity catalogue creates a meeting space for everyone who decides to join in."
Yurguen Hernández, councillor for Sports, Youth, and Digital Transformation, stated that the event "reinforces our commitment to creating new opportunities for the youth of La Palma, as well as boosting employment in emerging sectors linked to digital entertainment."
The mayor of El Paso, Eloy Martín, emphasized the economic relevance for the municipality: "For us, this event goes far beyond digital entertainment; it is an economic and commercial dynamization engine that fills our municipality with life and visitors from all over the island and even from outside it."
Teresa Díaz, councillor for Youth, added: "Our commitment to the youth of La Palma involves listening to what they are passionate about and offering them initiatives tailored to their needs." Meanwhile, promoter Maikel Chacón stated: "It is incredible to see how such a beautiful project grows year after year and becomes the annual favourite date for many young people; we are excited to show them several new features we have for this fifth anniversary."
Tickets for La Palma Summer-Con are already available through TomaTicket. The event is the second stop of the Canarias Summer-Con project; the third will take place in Gran Canaria, with dates yet to be announced.
