The duo of Elena Carratalá and Fabián Beneito has been crowned absolute champions of the XII edition of the Lanzarote Summer Challenge, held at the beach of El Reducto and the Marina Lanzarote.
The Alicante pair triumphed in a competition that brought together over 200 athletes in Arrecife, featuring a circuit that combined strength, endurance, and swimming exercises. The organisers described this edition as the most competitive in its history.
An Intense Circuit at El Reducto Beach
The day began at the beach of El Reducto, where participants performed 100 sit-ups without rest, followed by a 300-metre run and a sled drag with 60 kilos on the sand. The crowd cheered non-stop.
With no time to recover, the athletes completed another 300-metre run and chained 40 burpees with a 25-kilo dumbbell lift using one arm. The final test on the sand was a 150-metre swim in crystal-clear waters, which tested the competitors' endurance.
Marina Lanzarote: The Most Demanding Final Challenge
The qualification for the grand final was decided at the facilities of Marina Lanzarote Puerto Deportivo. There, athletes had to carry a 70-kilo sack on their shoulder for six minutes, followed by 10 push-ups in a handstand position. Only the top eight pairs in each category secured a place.
In the final, the finalists climbed 12 times up a 4.5-metre rope, jumped 150 times with a heavy rope, performed 80 throws of a 12-kilo ball with squats, and completed 60 leg raises on a bar. The grand finale: 30 bar lifts with 80 kilos from the ground to above the head.
Elite Podium and Crowded Atmosphere
Elena Carratalá and Fabián Beneito were crowned champions of the elite RX category, followed by Laura Plaza and Arnau Sabaté (second) and Julia Blazejowska and Alejandro De la Guardia (third). The organisation highlighted the large turnout and festive atmosphere along the coast of Arrecife.
For the local audience, the event has established itself as a key sporting occasion on the island, attracting visitors and generating significant economic impact. The next edition is already scheduled for July 2027. Those wishing to participate can register through the official website of the Lanzarote Summer Challenge.
