The Lanzarote shipping company Líneas Romero presented this Thursday in Arrecife two new vessels, the catamaran 'María Rosa R.' and the ferry 'Juan Jorge R.', which strengthen its fleet and improve the connection between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The port of Arrecife was the setting this Thursday for the launch of two new ships from Líneas Romero, named after two members of the founding family: 'María Rosa R.' and 'Juan Jorge R.'. The company, with nearly a century of history, continues its fleet renewal plan, which has already ensured that 85% of its units are less than eight years old.
Two ships with different profiles
The 'María Rosa R.', built in France by Day 1 Catamarans, is a reinforced fiberglass catamaran designed for tourist excursions. Its main destinations will be the routes to Papagayo beaches and sunset outings, focusing on passenger comfort and accessibility. The vessel incorporates a digital boarding system that streamlines the process, according to company sources.
On the other hand, the 'Juan Jorge R.', manufactured at the Asturian shipyards Gondán, is a ferry with a capacity for 350 passengers, aimed at the regular line connecting Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. It will primarily operate between the ports of Playa Blanca and Corralejo, improving the frequency and capacity of passenger and cargo services. Both vessels are powered by state-of-the-art MTU engines and built from reinforced fiberglass, which reduces fuel consumption.
Investment that generates employment and connectivity
The CEO of Líneas Romero, Federico Romero, highlighted during the event that customer confidence "drives us to continue investing in innovation, in an increasingly efficient fleet, and in providing the best possible experience to everyone who travels with us." The Economic Promotion Councillor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Nori Machín, emphasized that the company "demonstrates the capability of a Lanzarote company with nearly a century of history to continue growing from the island with investment, employment, and quality service."
The Deputy Minister of Universities and Research of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ciro Gutiérrez, also present at the event, noted that "today not only are two new vessels added, today this company continues looking forward, investing, improving, and, above all, trusting in this land and its possibilities." The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, concluded the speeches wishing a prosperous future for the shipping company.
For the residents of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the arrival of the 'Juan Jorge R.' means a boost in maritime connectivity between the two islands, with more seats and greater frequency on the Playa Blanca-Corralejo route. Tourists visiting the south of Lanzarote, for their part, will be able to enjoy excursions to Papagayo and sunsets on a more modern and comfortable catamaran. The company expects both vessels to enter service in the coming weeks, once the final technical adjustments are completed.
