The Police solve nearly 60% of reports in Lanzarote, which sees a 4.1% drop in crime

The island director of the General State Administration, Pedro Viera, has highlighted that the crime rate in Lanzarote stands at 44.1 crimes per thousand inhabitants, below the Canary Islands and national averages. Furthermore, the percentage of resolved reports reaches 58.6%.

The island director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera, has presented the crime data for the first quarter of 2026, reflecting a 4.1% decrease compared to the same period last year. Viera emphasized that the island maintains safety indices lower than the averages for the Canary Islands and Spain as a whole, with 44.1 crimes per thousand inhabitants compared to 48 in the Canary Islands and 51 in the state.

By municipality, Tías leads the reduction with 12.8%, followed by Teguise with 2.8% and Arrecife with 1.4%. The rest of the island's localities also register a combined decrease of 1.4%. According to Viera, these figures confirm that Lanzarote is moving in the right direction and that public perception does not always correspond with the reality of a safe island.

One of the most notable aspects highlighted by the representative of the central government is police effectiveness. “The resolution percentage, that is, the reports that are resolved, is around 58.6%, almost 60%. This means that out of every hundred reports, nearly sixty are pursued and resolved,” he stated. This figure indicates that almost six out of ten reports filed by citizens are clarified by the Security Forces and Corps.

Viera acknowledged that the most common crimes on the island are property thefts, although he noted that fortunately, large organized gangs do not operate in Lanzarote. Police efforts focus on combating these crimes and maintaining public safety, an objective that the data reflects as achieved.

The island director wanted to convey a message of reassurance to residents and tourists, emphasizing that Lanzarote is a safe destination. The comparison with other Canary and national regions places the island in a favourable position, contributing to its tourist appeal and the quality of life for its residents.

These figures are set against a backdrop of collaboration between various administrations and police bodies, which work together to improve safety. Viera thanked the agents for their daily efforts that enable these results to be achieved.

Regarding future developments, Viera is confident that the downward trend will continue, although he urged not to let down their guard. Prevention and rapid response to crimes will remain priorities for the security forces on the island.
