Homegrown pivot Abián Martín (22 years old) will remain for another season at Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife, after finalising his renewal with San José Obrero. This is the fifth confirmed continuity for the 2026/2027 project.
Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife continues to strengthen its future project. The sports management of San José Obrero announced this Wednesday the renewal of pivot Abián Martín, who will continue to be a key piece in the attack of the team from Lanzarote.
Martín, 22, is one of the homegrown talents who has been gaining prominence season after season. In the recently concluded campaign, he played 27 official matches in the Men's National First Division, scoring 99 goals, making him the fourth top scorer of the squad.
After signing the new contract, the player expressed his excitement: “I approach the season with great enthusiasm, eager to compete again and looking forward to starting to work with my new teammates and those who continue for another year.”
The pivot reflected on the past season, in which the team fell just short of the promotion phase. “At a collective level, we tried until the end. There were disconnections in several matches and even so, we were close to the objective,” he explained. Individually, he stated he was “satisfied, but I know I have to give more to achieve this season's goal.”
“It’s an ambitious project, with a committed, united group hungry to return the club to the División de Honor Plata. I trust in the club's work and I am sure they are forming a competitive squad,” said Abián Martín.
With this renewal, Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife now has five confirmed continuities for the 2026/2027 season. In addition to Abián Martín, the club has secured the permanence of central Javi Aragón, winger Aday González, goalkeeper Saúl Rodríguez, and lateral Acoidán Martín.
The commitment to homegrown talent and maintaining the backbone of the team is a constant in the sports policy of San José Obrero. The sports management seeks to combine the experience of veterans with the drive of young players trained in the club.
