The 'Buchito de Café' programme from the San Bartolomé Town Hall concludes a new edition with an average of 30 participants per meeting, establishing itself as a space for female gathering in the municipality.
The programme 'Buchito de Café', promoted by the San Bartolomé Town Hall through the Department of Equality, has concluded a new edition with an average of 30 participants per session, exceeding initial expectations. The initiative, which takes place in various areas of the municipality, aims to create meeting points for women to share experiences and strengthen community ties.
The project, which collaborates with the Mararía Association, offers weekly meetings with cultural, educational, and creative activities. The programme includes workshops on creative writing, biodanza, group dynamics, psychomotricity through music, singing circles, film forums, and talks on health and self-care, as detailed by the Town Hall.
Free transport to facilitate attendance
One of the keys to the programme's success is the free transport service that the Town Hall provides for attendees. Women are picked up at various points in the municipality to facilitate their participation, regardless of the locality in which they reside. This measure aims to eliminate access barriers and ensure that residents from all towns in San Bartolomé can participate.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, has highlighted that 'Buchito de Café' represents “much more than a programme of activities” and emphasised that it is “a space where relationships are created, knowledge is shared, and ties between neighbours of different generations are strengthened.” Pérez added that the Town Hall continues to support initiatives related to “participation, coexistence, and the well-being of citizens.”
Post-pandemic recovery and combating loneliness
The councillor for Equality, Mónica de León, has recalled that the programme has a solid track record in San Bartolomé, although it suffered an interruption during the Covid-19 pandemic. “Two years ago we decided to revive it because we understood it remained a very valuable tool for combating unwanted loneliness, strengthening personal relationships, and creating community,” she explained.
The edition now concluding has also included book presentations, activities related to Carnival and Canary Islands Day, as well as cultural visits, excursions, and community gatherings in different parts of the island. The variety of content allows proposals to be adapted to the interests of the participants, combining learning, leisure, and coexistence.
The 'Buchito de Café' programme has become a weekly event for dozens of women in the municipality, who see these meetings as an opportunity to break from routine, meet new neighbours, and actively participate in community life. The initiative, which began as an experimental venture, has established itself as one of the municipal commitments to equality and social well-being.
For the next edition, the Town Hall plans to maintain the same structure, although it does not rule out increasing the number of sessions or incorporating new activities based on demand. Interested parties can obtain information through the Department of Equality or the Mararía Association.
