The Lanzarote player Samuel Gil Cuerda, from CD Chinijos Costa Teguise, has been called up by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation for the National Training Days to be held in Sierra Nevada from September 25 to October 2.

Lanzarote handball is once again in the national spotlight. Samuel Gil Cuerda, a young promise from CD Chinijos Costa Teguise, has been selected by the Technical Area of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation to participate in the National Training Days. The event will bring together the most outstanding players from the 2011-2012 Generation at the High-Performance Centre in Sierra Nevada, Granada.

A versatile lateral with potential

Samuel Gil, 14 years old, has been called up as a right back, although his versatility also allows him to play on the right wing. His ability to adapt to different positions on the front line makes him a valuable asset for any team. The player from CD Chinijos Costa Teguise earned his call-up after a brilliant season with the cadet team.

The Costa Teguise team won the title of champions of the Canary Islands and reached second place in the sector phase of the Spanish Championship, held in Teguise. These results caught the attention of national coaches, who did not hesitate to include Samuel Gil in the list of call-ups.

A unique opportunity for Lanzarote handball

The National Training Days, which will take place from September 25 to October 2, provide an excellent platform for young talents to showcase their skills. Samuel Gil will be under the watchful eye of the selectors from the Royal Spanish Handball Federation, who will closely monitor his development during the intense training sessions scheduled.

For Lanzarote, having a representative at these training days is a source of pride and a testament to the good work of the island's youth academy. CD Chinijos Costa Teguise, which has worked hard to develop young talent, sees its efforts rewarded with this call-up. The player, originally from Teguise, will have the opportunity to compete with the best of his generation and learn from elite coaches.

A summer of preparation

Until the event in Sierra Nevada, Samuel Gil will continue training with his club to arrive in the best condition. The training camp at the CAR in Sierra Nevada will be demanding, with double sessions and specific tactical work. The young lateral will need to demonstrate his adaptability and commitment to handball.

Fans in Lanzarote will closely follow his participation, hoping that this is the first step in a promising career. For now, Samuel Gil has already made history as the only representative from the island at these training days. Canary handball, and particularly that of Lanzarote, continues to take firm steps towards the future.

The event in Granada will not only serve to evaluate the players but also allow Samuel Gil to share experiences with other young talents from across Spain. The competitive and camaraderie atmosphere will be key to his development as an athlete.
