The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Employment Area, has signed an agreement with the Santa María la Real Foundation to launch a new edition of the 'Entrena Empleo Rural' programme, aimed at unemployed women from the municipalities of Teguise, Yaiza and Tinajo. The sessions, both in-person and online, will begin in September.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has sealed an agreement with the Santa María la Real Foundation to bring a new edition of the 'Entrena Empleo Rural' programme to the island, an initiative that aims to improve job opportunities for unemployed women living in rural areas. The agreement, signed by the Employment Area led by councillor Ascensión Toledo, includes the municipalities of Teguise, Yaiza and Tinajo, where activities will take place from September until December.

Practical training for job searching

The programme offers in-person and online sessions in which participants will work with specialists from the Santa María la Real Foundation. The aim is to design a personalised job search itinerary, strengthen transversal and digital skills, practice interviews, and create employability maps. Additionally, they will have direct contact with local productive companies, facilitating job placement.

As explained by councillor Toledo, the agreement allows “to bring labour orientation resources closer to women who face greater difficulties in re-entering the job market, especially in the island's rural municipalities.” The training will focus on practical tools such as updating resumes, interview preparation, digital skills, and defining professional objectives.

Requirements and priority for long-term unemployed

The programme is aimed at unemployed women over 18 years old, regardless of their educational background, experience, or professional origin. Long-term unemployed women and those who have interrupted their career to dedicate themselves to motherhood or unpaid family care will be given priority. Places are limited, and registration will remain open until 14 September through the website entrenaempleo.org.

Interested individuals can also request information from the programme technician in Lanzarote, Tamara González, via phone 621 157 032 or email tgonzalez@santamarialareal.org. The Cabildo highlights that data from previous editions show that this type of support can translate into employment and new training opportunities.

A boost for rural women in Lanzarote

Councillor Ascensión Toledo emphasised that “the training will focus on practical tools: updating resumes, interview preparation, digital skills, defining professional objectives, and direct contact with companies.” This practical approach aims for participants to acquire concrete skills that enhance their employability in an increasingly digital job market.

For women in the rural municipalities of Lanzarote, the programme represents an opportunity to break geographical isolation and access labour orientation resources that would otherwise be difficult to find. The sessions will be tailored to the needs of each participant, with continuous support from the foundation's specialists.

With this initiative, the Cabildo of Lanzarote reaffirms its commitment to equal opportunities and employment development in the island's rural areas. Interested individuals can register until 14 September and start being part of a programme that has already proven effective in previous editions.
