The Yaiza council has definitively approved the municipal budget for 2026, amounting to 33.7 million euros, after dismissing the claims presented by Comisiones Obreras. The budget will come into effect this week.

The Yaiza Town Hall, governed by Óscar Noda, has given the green light to the municipal budget for 2026, a total of 33.7 million euros that will start to be applied from its publication in the official bulletin this week. The final approval came this Monday after the council rejected the claims made by the Comisiones Obreras union during the public consultation period.

Rejection of union claims

The union's claims focused on issues such as the amortisation of positions, the creation of new ones, salary modifications, and an alleged legal fraud due to outsourcing of services. However, Mayor Óscar Noda explained that these claims were based on aspects not subject to appeal in budgetary matters, according to the legal grounds he presented during the plenary session.

One of the highlighted points was the claim against the Credit Modification file number 015-2026. The union linked it to a salary alteration, but it actually concerns an extraordinary credit of 93,000 euros from the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for the 'Yaiza municipality Corresponsible' plan, which benefits thirty families in vulnerable situations in the municipality.

The mayor reiterated his willingness to "engage in sensible dialogues and agreements within the law, like the one that allowed us in 2023 to stabilise eighty percent of the workforce, an administrative process that secured employment for 160 Town Hall workers."

Investments with treasury surpluses

In addition to the ordinary budget, Yaiza had already consolidated 22.9 million euros in treasury surpluses at the beginning of July. These funds will be allocated to a dozen projects of general interest that will soon be put out to tender. For residents, this means improvements in infrastructure and services that directly affect daily life, such as the renewal of roads or the expansion of supply networks.

The mayor also referred to the job position list (RPT), noting that the one for the Local Police has already been approved and that they are working on the administrative units to optimise the functioning of the Town Hall. A reassuring message for municipal employees: "I will never put the municipal workforce at risk because it is made up of individuals absolutely committed to public service."

With the budget coming into effect, the residents of Yaiza will see the allocations reflected in services such as street cleaning, parks and gardens, and social aid. The local government insists that the accounts comply with the balance between income and expenses, and that there is no deficit or omissions in the approval process.
