A 25-year-old driver suffered moderate injuries after his vehicle overturned on the TF-1 motorway, near the municipality of Arico. The accident occurred shortly after 10:30 AM and forced a partial closure of the road.
The incident took place at 10:37 AM this Sunday in the lanes heading towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife, when the vehicle the young man was travelling in overturned for reasons still under investigation by the Civil Guard. The Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands received several calls alerting them to the incident and immediately activated the necessary resources.
Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene
Two ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) were sent to the accident site: one basic life support ambulance and another medicalised ambulance. The paramedics stabilised the driver at the scene and confirmed that he had various moderate injuries, with no immediate threat to his life. After the initial assistance, he was evacuated in the medicalised ambulance to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in Santa Cruz.
Traffic delays and road cleaning
The overturn caused temporary traffic delays on the TF-1, one of the busiest roads on the island. Civil Guard officers regulated traffic in the area to prevent further incidents and prepared the corresponding report. Subsequently, workers from the Tenerife Road Maintenance Service carried out cleaning operations to remove the wreckage of the vehicle and restore normal traffic flow.
Drivers in the area experienced delays of about 20 minutes while rescue and cleaning operations were underway. The Cabildo reminds the importance of maintaining a safe distance and respecting speed limits, especially in sections where curves and changes in gradient are concentrated, such as those in Arico.
This Sunday’s accident adds to other incidents recorded on the TF-1 during the summer. According to data from the General Directorate of Traffic, over the last three months, there have been more than a dozen off-road incidents and overturns in southern Tenerife. Authorities stress the need for heightened caution while driving.
The injured man remains under observation at the Hospital de la Candelaria, where he is recovering well. He is expected to be discharged in the coming hours if no complications arise. Meanwhile, the Civil Guard continues to investigate the causes of the incident to clarify what happened.
