AEMET issues a yellow warning in the Canary Islands for strong winds and coastal phenomena. The north of the mountainous islands will have cloudy intervals and a chance of drizzle, with temperatures remaining unchanged.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated a yellow warning for this Sunday and Monday in the Canary Islands due to coastal phenomena and winds. The last Sunday of July will be marked by cloudy intervals in the northern part of the more mountainous islands, while the rest of the archipelago will experience mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies.
In the southeast and northwest slopes, the trade winds will blow with strong intervals and very intense gusts, especially during the early hours of the day. Temperatures will remain stable, although in parts of the southeast of Fuerteventura and in low areas of southern Gran Canaria and Tenerife, they could reach 30 degrees.
For Monday, the forecast indicates cloudy intervals in the northern part of the more mountainous islands, more compact during the early hours. In the rest of the archipelago, the skies will be practically clear. The trade winds will blow with strong intervals in the southeast and northwest slopes, while breezes will prevail along the southwest coasts of the larger islands.
By island, in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, little cloudiness or clear skies are expected, with cloudy intervals in the north and west respectively, and light haze at high levels. Temperatures will not change, with possible 30 degrees in the southeast of Fuerteventura. The trade winds will blow with strong intervals and very intense gusts in the early morning.
In Gran Canaria, the sky will be cloudy in the north, with a chance of drizzle in the midlands, and clear in the rest. Temperatures will drop in the peaks and midlands, as well as in low areas of the south, with a possibility of reaching 30 degrees in the southeast. The wind will be strong in the southeast and northwest slopes.
Tenerife will have cloudy skies in the north, with occasional drizzle in the northeast midlands, and clear in the rest. Temperatures will decrease in the peaks, midlands, and low areas of the south, potentially reaching 30 degrees in Candelaria and the Güímar valley. The trade winds will blow strongly on the southeast coast and in the extreme northwest.
In La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro, cloudy skies are also expected in the north and east, with occasional drizzle in the midlands. Temperatures will remain unchanged. The trade winds will blow with strong intervals in the east and northwest slopes, with very intense gusts in the early morning, and breezes on the west coasts.
AEMET recommends caution due to wind gusts, especially in exposed areas and during navigation, due to the risk of coastal phenomena. Conditions are expected to improve from Tuesday.
