The municipality of Candelaria commemorates this Sunday, July 26, the feast of its patrons Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. The day includes religious events, a parade, and a procession that will culminate with fireworks.
The Tenerife town of Candelaria experiences one of the major days of its July festivities this Sunday with the celebration of the feast of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. The events will kick off at 10:00 AM with a festive parade led by the Batucada Almagec, which will traverse the streets of Santa Ana and the historic centre of the municipality.
At 11:45 AM, a civic procession will depart from the Alfarero Centre Casa Las Miquelas, accompanied by musicians from the Banda Las Candelas. During this event, the banner will be moved to the Parish of Saint Anne, with the presence of the municipal corporation, invited authorities, and the local police in formal attire.
The solemn religious service in honour of Saint Anne will begin at 12:00 PM at the Parish of Saint Anne, presided over by Antonio Gómez Santos, parish priest of San Antonio de Padua in Las Retamas. The Chamber Orchestra Las Candelas, featuring soloist Alba Fariña and under the direction of Silvia Alonso Fariña, will provide the musical accompaniment. At the end of the Eucharist, a shower of fireworks will be launched.
In the afternoon, at 8:00 PM, the Parish of Saint Anne will host another Eucharist, this time presided over by Fray Dailos José Melo González, parish priest of Saint Anne.
The highlight will come at 9:00 PM with the procession of the revered images of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. The procession will leave from the parish accompanied by ecclesiastical representatives, the municipal corporation, the Banda de Música Las Candelas, and the faithful. The route will pass through the streets Isla de Tenerife, Santa Ana, La Cardonera, Juan El Cape Pescador, La Cardonera, Santa Ana, and Isla de Tenerife. During the journey, the Folkloric Group Santa Ana-San Blas will sing the anthem.
Upon their return, a fireworks display is scheduled, along with a performance by Fernando Lugo, which will conclude the festive day.
The feast of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim is one of the most deeply rooted in Candelaria, where locals and visitors actively participate in the religious and recreational events. The Candelaria City Council has organised this programme with the aim of keeping the tradition alive and offering a day of community.
For those wishing to attend, it is recommended to arrive early due to the expected turnout. The streets of the historic centre will be closed to traffic during the procession, so it is suggested to use public transport or park in designated areas.
