The Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the City Council of Teror, and the Basilica of the Pino have announced a preview of the programme for the 2026 Fiestas del Pino, which includes concerts by Lila Downs, Nena Daconte, Seguridad Social, and Cali y el Dandee, among others.
The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, and the mayor of Teror, José Agustín Arencibia, presented this Friday, alongside the government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, and other authorities, a preview of the 2026 Fiestas del Pino, which will be celebrated between August and September in the Marian Villa. The programme combines religious events, concerts, fairs, and sports events, with the novelty of having recently been declared Fiestas of National Tourist Interest.
Antonio Morales highlighted the "singular significance" of a festival that mixes "memory, popular devotion, faith, and shared roots across different generations, in a ritual of belonging to a shared insular community that is reaffirmed every year." For his part, Mayor Arencibia expressed pride in the national recognition: "A source of pride for all the residents of Teror and Gran Canaria, as well as a responsibility for those of us in charge of its organisation."
The island's councillor for Culture, Guacimara Medina, announced that her department will organise several prestigious events in Teror, such as the 74th edition of the Romería-Ofrenda del Pino, the 34th Gran Canaria Folklore Festival, the second edition of the Romería del Timple, the recording of the TVEC programme 'Tenderete', and the 37th Teresa de Bolívar Popular Music Meeting, which this year will feature a star concert by Mexican singer Lila Downs.
The councillor for Festivities in Teror, Angharad Quintana, detailed the municipal offerings, which encompass festive, cultural, sports, commercial, family, and youth activities, spread throughout the historic centre, especially around the Basilica and Plaza de Sintes. Among the highlighted events are the Livestock Fair (September 23), the Villa de Teror Rally (September 26), the Street Art Festival “En Pie”, the “Pinito Fest” (September 4) featuring Soge Culebra, Bejo, Rodrigo Fénix, and Elo Minetti, and concerts by Nena Daconte (September 5), Seguridad Social (September 8), and Cali y el Dandee (September 10). Two musical tributes have also been scheduled: Manuel Carrasco (September 5) and Symphonic Rhapsody of Queen (September 9).
The government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, emphasised that the festivals have not recorded any noteworthy incidents in recent editions and announced a security operation consisting of 300 personnel: 250 from the Civil Guard and 50 from the National Police, along with agents from the Local Police of Teror and reinforcements from other municipalities on the island. Pestana reminded that September is a period of risk for forest fires, urging pilgrims travelling to Teror via forest paths and secondary roads to exercise extreme caution.
The rector of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pino, Jorge Martín de la Coba, noted that "every September, Gran Canarians lose their minds and hearts to Teror, but this year we do so in the context of the recent papal visit." On September 5, the Virgin will be taken down from her shrine, while on the 20th, she will be raised again. On the 8th, Pino Day, various Eucharists will be celebrated in the Basilica, including the pontifical mass and procession at 12:00. "These are festivities where tradition, fervour, typicality, participation, and the love of a people for the Virgin continue to be showcased," added De la Coba.
The municipal programme will kick off before the opening speech, scheduled for August 28, with the livestock fair on August 23, and will extend until September 26 with the Villa de Teror Rally. There will also be two children's parties: one for older children on September 1 and another for younger children on September 3. The Street Art Festival “En Pie” will again be one of the highlights, along with the main concerts starting on September 4 with the Pinito Fest.
The residents of Teror and visitors will be able to enjoy a diverse programme aimed at satisfying all audiences, with special attention to tradition and popular culture. The declaration of National Tourist Interest represents a boost for a festival that is already a reference in the Canary Islands.
