The mountain race 'Aguas de Teror Trail – Challenge of the Peaks' celebrates its 15th edition this Saturday, July 25, in Teror, with 1,300 registered in three categories. The event includes new features in the route and a special refreshment stop with Teror chorizo.

The Gran Canaria town of Teror is preparing to host this Saturday, July 25, the 15th edition of the mountain race 'Aguas de Teror Trail – Challenge of the Peaks', which will bring together 1,300 runners across three different distances. The event, organised by the Carphial Teror Trail team of the Los Álamos-El Pino Sports Club in collaboration with the Sports Department of the Teror City Council, will start at 08:30 from Paseo González Díaz.

The event was officially presented this Thursday in Plaza del Pino, with the attendance of the mayor of Teror, José Agustín Arencibia; the first deputy mayor, Sergio Nuez; the sports councillor, Moisés Rodríguez; and the representatives of the organisation, Yeray González and Néstor Domínguez. The race is primarily sponsored by the municipal company Aguas de Teror S.A., the Insular Sports Institute of the Gran Canaria Cabildo, and other local businesses.

Participants can choose from three routes: 21 kilometres, the flagship race which is technical and demanding; 15 kilometres, a balanced distance with intense elevation changes; and 7 kilometres, designed for those new to trail running. The ascent to Pico de Osorio, Cruz de la Hoya Alta, and the surroundings of Las Tres Piedras will be some of the key points of the course, which offers panoramic views of the northern part of the island.

One of the new features of this edition is the adaptation of the route due to damage caused by the recent rains in some areas of the municipality. Additionally, at the final refreshment stop, runners crossing the finish line will be able to taste a hamburger made with Teror chorizo, the town's star product. The event will be animated by two speakers, Ángel Arencibia and Jaime García, who will provide commentary.

The Teror City Council has announced the planned road closures for Saturday. Paseo González Díaz will be closed from 08:45 to 09:30 for the start of the 21 and 15 km races. Calle Párroco Juan González, Camino Basayeta, and Camino del Castaño will also experience intermittent closures between 09:00 and 09:30. The start of the 7 km race, from Calle El Chorrito to Paseo de Florián, will require traffic to be stopped from 09:25 to 09:45.

Furthermore, Camino Real del Álamo and Calle El Chorrito will change their direction of traffic from 09:30 to 13:30, allowing access via the former and exit via the latter. Calle La Mina will remain closed to traffic from 09:45 to 13:00 for the circuit of all three categories, and Calle Los Deportistas will be closed from 08:00 to 11:30 for refreshments. Parking will also be prohibited in several areas, such as Calle José Hernández Jiménez (next to the pool and pavilion), Camino Real del Álamo (between Puente del Álamo and the entrance to Muñigal), and Calle Obispo Urquinaona (right side), from 07:30 to 16:00, for security vehicles.

The distribution of race numbers for all categories will take place on Friday, July 24, at the Teror Tourism Centre, from 09:30 to 20:00. The organisation has highlighted the involvement of around 150 volunteers, who will ensure the smooth running of the event.

The 'Aguas de Teror Trail' has established itself as a benchmark for trail running in the Canary Islands due to its technical demands and the beauty of its trails. Locals and visitors will be able to enjoy the sporting atmosphere in the municipality, although they should keep in mind the traffic restrictions to avoid inconvenience.
