The City Council of La Laguna and Teidagua have presented Teidagua Digital Citizen Service, an online tool that offers data on water quality, sustainable routes, and water heritage.
Teidagua Digital is now operational. The platform, driven by the La Laguna council and the mixed company, allows any citizen to access updated information about the integral water cycle in the municipality. The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, highlighted that the portal aims to “continue being a closer, open, and accessible administration.”
The tool integrates data that until now were scattered across different areas. Braulio Domínguez, manager of Teidagua, explained that it unifies operational, environmental, and heritage information in a single digital space. The councillor for the Integral Water Cycle, Ángel Chinea, noted that the initiative “provides useful and updated information, facilitating decision-making.”
Sustainable routes and water heritage
Among the most striking features is the ‘Routes’ section, an interactive map viewer. It allows planning itineraries on foot, by bicycle, or by public transport, and includes environmental indicators that assess the quality of the surroundings. It also estimates avoided pollutant emissions, promoting more sustainable mobility.
The ‘Common Heritage’ section explores the fountains, cisterns, springs, and waterworks that marked the development of La Laguna. It includes an interactive map with points of interest related to water heritage. For residents, it is a way to rediscover local history linked to this resource.
European funding for a greener city
The platform is part of the AquaFuture La Laguna project, funded by Next Generation EU and MITECO. The goal is to transform the municipality into a greener, smarter, and more sustainable city. The initiative places San Cristóbal de La Laguna at the forefront of water management in the Canary Islands.
Citizens can already access the platform through teidaguadigital.es. There, they will find open data tailored to different profiles: administrations, researchers, professionals, and the general public. The tool promotes accountability and service delivery analysis.
For the residents of La Laguna, this represents a practical change: they can now check the water quality in their area, plan a walk along less polluting routes, or learn about the municipality's water heritage without leaving home. All in one portal, with updated and clear information.
