The Sala de Arte Los Lavaderos will host 'Boleros against Fire' this Saturday, August 1, a charity concert that will bring together musicians from Tenerife to help a family who lost their home in a fire.
The musical cycle 'Lavaderos Live Music' celebrates its tenth anniversary with an extraordinary event: a charity bolero concert that will take place this Saturday, August 1, starting at 19:00 in the Sala de Arte Los Lavaderos, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Under the name 'Boleros against Fire', the evening aims to raise funds for a neighbour from El Toscal whose house was completely destroyed by a fire that broke out on August 1 last year.
The organisation has set up a solidarity box so that the public can make voluntary contributions, which will be entirely allocated to the affected family. Access to the venue will be free until capacity is reached, thus maintaining the close-knit philosophy that has characterised the festival over the past decade.
The concert is an exception in the programming for the tenth anniversary, which initially included ten performances. However, the organisers decided to incorporate this charity event, considering that solidarity with the neighbourhood hosting the event should take precedence over celebration. Numerous artists from the Tenerife music scene have altruistically joined the initiative.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, has publicly supported the event and emphasised that "this concert represents the values that best define Santa Cruz: solidarity, collective commitment, and the ability of culture to unite people when they need it most." In his statements, Bermúdez added that "the 'Lavaderos Live Music' once again demonstrates that music can also become a tool for support, hope, and coexistence, mobilising artists and citizens around a cause that deserves our full backing."
The councillor for the Centro-Ifara District, Purificación Dávila, has also praised the initiative as "a collective response that demonstrates the capacity of culture to generate closeness, mutual support, and commitment to those going through difficult times." Dávila has invited all citizens to participate in an evening that, in her words, "will allow us to contribute to a deeply human cause."
The concert programme revives the bolero, one of the most representative genres of the cycle's trajectory. Over these ten years, this musical style has held a prominent place thanks to performances by Cristal Acústico, first, and later by Trío Ucanca and Guayaquí 3, becoming one of the most appreciated proposals by the public. The evening will feature artists such as José Luis León, Cancioneros, Toscal Romántico, Ruimán Quartet, and Fragilísticos.
Rubén Díaz, promoter of Lavaderos Live Music, explained that "when we designed the tenth edition, we had planned ten concerts to celebrate these ten years of history, but we understood that there were moments when the programming needed to step aside to respond to a real need." Díaz highlighted that "the response from the artists has been moving," as they all joined selflessly from the very beginning.
The promoter also pointed out the symbolic value of reviving the bolero for this cause: "it has been one of the genres that best defined the identity of Lavaderos Live Music over these ten years and allows us to pay tribute to musicians and friends who have left an indelible mark on the history of the festival."
The event also serves as an implicit recognition of the El Toscal neighbourhood, where last year's fire left a neighbour without a home. The organisation of the cycle, which was born in this historic district of Santa Cruz, wanted to give back to the neighbourhood part of the support it has received during a decade of concerts.
The concert will be held outdoors or inside the hall depending on weather conditions, and the capacity will be limited to ensure the safety of attendees. The organisation recommends arriving early to secure a spot, as entry is free and high participation is expected.
This initiative is part of a context in which Tenerife's culture has repeatedly demonstrated its capacity for social mobilization. The 'Lavaderos Live Music' thus consolidates itself as a cultural project with a strong community dimension, transcending mere musical programming.
Those who wish to contribute but cannot attend the concert will be able to make their contributions through the channels that the organisation will set up in the coming days. All proceeds will be entirely donated to the family affected by the fire.
