The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council will begin the resurfacing of Lope de Vega Street in the Salud-La Salle neighbourhood next Monday, August 3. The intervention, included in the Urban Impulse plan, has a budget of €83,179.59 and is expected to be completed by Friday, August 7.
The works will take place during the day, between 07:30 and 17:30, aiming to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses. The project includes a complete rehabilitation of the asphalt in two phases, with temporary traffic closures and signposted diversions.
The city's mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted that “the Urban Impulse plan continues to demonstrate our commitment to improving infrastructure and the well-being of Santa Cruz residents. We are continuing to invest to ensure safer, more comfortable roads that meet the current needs of the municipality.”
For his part, the first deputy mayor and councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, explained that “we are working to ensure that the impact of these works on the daily lives of citizens is as minimal as possible. Therefore, we have designed a detailed operation with signposted diversions and temporary two-way sections that will guarantee access to homes and businesses in the area while we carry out this resurfacing work on Lope de Vega Street.”
Two Phases with Traffic Closures
During Phase 1, the road will be closed to traffic in the section between the intersection with La Salle Avenue and Garcilaso de la Vega Street. Vehicles coming from the cross streets will have signposted diversions through La Salle Avenue and the streets Calderón de la Barca, Jorge Manrique, Eduardo Zamacois, and Góngora. Temporary two-way sections will be established to ensure access to homes.
Phase 2 will continue in the western section of Lope de Vega Street. The road will be closed to vehicular traffic, with alternative routes established through the network of adjacent roads such as Calderón de la Barca, Jorge Manrique, Eduardo Zamacois, and Góngora. In this phase, Garcilaso de la Vega Street will remain closed.
Residents and businesses in the area should pay attention to the provisional signage, which will be installed before the works begin. The City Council recommends planning trips in advance and using the indicated alternative routes to avoid delays.
Changes to the 902 Bus Line
The intervention will also affect public transport. The 902 line, which covers the route between the Intercambiador, Plaza de los Patos, and Barrio Nuevo, will temporarily modify its route during the work hours, from 07:30 to 17:30, until the works are completed.
In the direction of Intercambiador, the buses will divert from their usual route upon reaching La Salle Avenue to continue along Tres de Mayo Avenue to their final destination. This alteration will result in the temporary cancellation of the stops located on San Sebastián Avenue and José Hernández Alfonso Street, which will be replaced by stops at La Salle School and at the Intercambiador itself.
The Public Services department has apologised for the inconvenience and assures that the works will be carried out as quickly as possible. Once completed, Lope de Vega Street will regain its usual appearance with a renewed surface and improved conditions for traffic.
These actions are part of a broader plan to improve roads in various locations in Santa Cruz, aimed at adapting the pavement to the current needs of the municipality and ensuring the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
