The China Anaga restaurant, a classic on Anaga Avenue in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, reopened on 7 July after a month of forced closure due to the renovation works on the promenade. The family owners celebrate the support received and call for better municipal coordination.
The China Anaga restaurant, located on Francisco La Roche Avenue in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has resumed serving its dishes since 7 July. The establishment, which opened in 1967 and had never closed before, was forced to halt its activity for a month due to the transformation works in the area.
The family responsible for the establishment released a statement following the reopening. In it, they express gratitude for the support received during these weeks, from messages and calls to visits and gestures of affection from customers and neighbours. "We never imagined that such a difficult decision would receive such an extraordinary response," they state.
A Historic Closure for a Business Nearly 60 Years Old
The closure of China Anaga had a significant symbolic impact. It was the first time, in almost 60 years of history, that the restaurant completely ceased its activity. It opened in 1967 and is part of the gastronomic and commercial memory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The owners explain that the decision was not "simple or desired," but rather a consequence of many months of works in the vicinity of the establishment. The intervention on Anaga Avenue had made regular access to the restaurant difficult and caused problems for the daily operation of the business.
The restaurant is located in the pedestrian section of Francisco La Roche Avenue, popularly known as Anaga Avenue. It is one of the businesses directly affected by the renovation works being carried out by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council in this area.
Access to the Restaurant Improves After the Intervention
After a month of closure, the family of China Anaga acknowledges that the situation has improved in the section located in front of the restaurant. According to the statement, access to the establishment now shows a "very significant" improvement, which they consider positive for customers, workers, neighbours, and people who pass through the area daily.
During the weeks of closure, the municipal Infrastructure department accelerated the works in the immediate vicinity of the establishment. Currently, access to the restaurant is paved, allowing for the resumption of activity while works continue in the rest of the promenade.
The restaurant emphasizes that it has never opposed public works or the progress of the city. Their demand, they insist, has focused on the need for these actions to be carried out with greater planning, coordination, information, and sensitivity towards those who live daily with their consequences.
A Demand Regarding the Impact of the Works
The family of China Anaga has taken advantage of the reopening to send a message to the municipal authorities. They request that public works be better planned and that affected businesses be informed in advance. "We are not against progress, but things can be done differently," they insist.
For the neighbours and regular customers, the reopening is a relief. The restaurant is a meeting point in the area, and its closure left a gap in the gastronomic offer of the avenue. Now, with improved access, they hope to gradually regain their clientele.
The works on Anaga Avenue continue, but the section in front of China Anaga is already completed. The restaurant recommends checking its usual hours and reminds that they continue to serve their classic Chinese food menu, with dishes ranging from spring rolls to Peking duck.
