Seniors over 60 registered in Santa Cruz de Tenerife can apply from August 3 for a spot on the first trip of the Social Tourism Programme, which will go to Granada from November 14 to 19.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, in collaboration with the Tenerife Cabildo through the Insular Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS), will open registration on Monday, August 3, for participation in the first round of the Social Tourism Programme for Seniors. The initiative, which will take place from November 14 to 19, will take a group of seniors from the municipality to the city of Granada, at a cost of €233.31 per person.
The programme, which is part of the council's active aging policies, aims to promote social participation and improve the quality of life of seniors through travel and cultural activities. This first round includes round-trip flights from Tenerife North Airport, ground transportation, accommodation in a four-star hotel, full board with drinks, visits and entries included in the itinerary, an official guide, accompanying tutor staff, evening entertainment, and travel insurance.
The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, has highlighted that “this programme represents much more than a trip. It is an opportunity for our seniors to continue enjoying new experiences, expand their social relationships, and maintain an active life, which are fundamental aspects for their well-being and quality of life.” Similarly, the Councillor for Social Policies, Charín González, has emphasized that it is “a tool that promotes personal autonomy and combats unwanted loneliness,” offering participants the chance to discover new destinations “in a safe and accompanied environment.”
Applications can be submitted from August 3 to 28, both inclusive. The provisional list of accepted applicants will be published on October 1, with a correction period until October 9. The final resolution and the reserve list will be made public on October 26, and payment for the trip must be made between October 26 and 30.
Participants must be seniors over 60 years old, or who will turn that age during the year of the trip, who have been registered in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for a minimum of three years. Additionally, they must meet the income limits set out in the guidelines and have the necessary health conditions to undertake the trip.
The call anticipates that, in addition to this first round, two new rounds with the same destination will be developed, with dates to be announced soon. For those interested, all information about the call, the necessary documentation, and the application procedure is available on the municipal electronic headquarters or through the telephone assistance service 010 (or 922 606 010), Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 15:00 hours.
This initiative, which is repeated every year, has become one of the most anticipated events for the senior community in the municipality, who see these trips as an opportunity to break the routine, discover new places, and strengthen ties with other neighbours. The previous edition saw high demand, leading the City Council to increase the number of spots and organise several rounds.
The council encourages all individuals who meet the requirements to submit their applications within the established timeframe. The experience gained from previous editions, with very positive feedback from participants, suggests that this new trip to Granada will once again be a success in participation.
Interested seniors should keep in mind that the application period is limited and that spots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, once the requirements have been verified. Therefore, it is recommended to prepare the documentation in advance and submit the application as soon as possible.
