The Aemet forecasts generally clear skies, with cloudy intervals in the north of the mountainous islands and light calima at altitude. Temperatures may exceed 30ºC in several areas, especially in the south of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

This Sunday, July 19, the Canary Islands will wake up with mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies, although the low areas in the north of the mountainous islands and the western slopes of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote will have cloudy intervals in the early and late hours of the day. Additionally, a light calima at altitude will affect the archipelago, according to the State Meteorological Agency.

Summer Temperatures in the South

The temperatures will not experience significant changes compared to previous days, but will remain at summer values. They could reach and even exceed 30ºC – 32ºC in the midlands of the south and west of Gran Canaria, as well as in the southern half of Fuerteventura. In the rest of the islands, it is not ruled out that locally 30ºC may be reached.

In the capitals, the thermometer will range between 23ºC and 26ºC in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, while in Santa Cruz de Tenerife the maximum will be around 30ºC. In Arrecife (Lanzarote), temperatures are expected to be between 21ºC and 30ºC, and in Caleta de Sebo (La Graciosa) between 22ºC and 28ºC.

Moderate Trade Winds with Strong Gusts

The wind will blow from the northeast, with moderate trade winds that will be strong on the southeast and northwest slopes of the islands, as well as in the southern interior of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, where locally very strong gusts are not ruled out. On the southwest coasts of the mountainous islands, sea breezes will prevail.

At sea, the wind will worsen conditions on the open coasts to the north and southeast, with waves that could exceed 1.5 meters. On the more sheltered southern coasts, areas of choppy seas will prevail.

Forecast by Islands

In El Hierro, clear skies except in the north and northeast, with cloudy intervals. Light calima at altitude and moderate trade winds, more intense in the southeast. Summer temperatures.

In La Palma, clear except in the north and east, with more compact intervals in the early and late hours. Moderate trade winds with possible very strong gusts in the southeast and northwest. Temperatures between 21ºC and 27ºC in the capital.

In La Gomera, cloudy intervals in the north and clear in the rest. Moderate trade winds, very intense in the capital in the afternoon. 30ºC may be reached on the southern and western slopes, and the maximum in the capital will be around 29ºC.

In Tenerife, clear except in the north, with more significant intervals in the morning and evening. Moderate trade winds, with locally very strong gusts not ruled out in low areas of the southeast and northwest. Temperatures may reach 30ºC on southern coasts and in the capital.

In Gran Canaria, a cloud band in the north with clearings at noon; elsewhere, clear. Very intense trade winds in the southeast and northwest, with possible very strong gusts. 32ºC may be exceeded on the southern and western slopes. In the capital, temperatures will range between 23ºC and 26ºC.

In Fuerteventura, clear except in the west, with morning intervals. Moderate trade winds, more intense in the south of Jandía. In the southern half, temperatures may exceed 30ºC.

In Lanzarote, intervals in the west and clear in the rest. Moderate trade winds that accelerate in the afternoon in the southern interior. Temperatures between 21ºC and 30ºC in Arrecife.

In La Graciosa, morning intervals, light calima at altitude and moderate trade winds. Temperatures between 22ºC and 28ºC in Caleta de Sebo.

For those planning beach outings or excursions, Sunday will be mostly sunny, although with some calima that may reduce visibility at altitude. The wind, especially on the southeast and northwest slopes, may be bothersome, so it is advisable to secure objects on terraces and balconies. The temperatures invite outdoor enjoyment, but with sun protection and plenty of water, as in the south they will exceed 30ºC.
