Bulan Chill Out, The Red Lion, Bambú Lounge, Azotea Urban 180 and Sabbath join the island protocol to prevent and act against sexual harassment. Staff will receive specific training.
The Cabildo of Tenerife has added five new nightlife establishments in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to its protocol for safe spaces against sexual assaults. The initiative, which was already operating in Adeje, Arona, Puerto de la Cruz, and the capital itself, aims for the sector to actively engage in the prevention and detection of these violences.
The venues involved are Bulan Chill Out-Restaurant, The Red Lion British Pub, Bambú Lounge Tenerife, Azotea Urban 180 and Sabbath. All of them commit to training their staff to identify potential cases, assist victims, and coordinate with specialized resources and the Security Forces.
Training and multilingual material
The protocol, promoted by the Cabildo, requires that staff receive specific training on how to act in the event of a sexual assault or harassment. Additionally, the venues must display informational and awareness material in Spanish, English, and German, and collaborate on prevention campaigns.
They also commit to implementing internal procedures for any episode of sexual violence, ensuring a quick and coordinated response. The network already has nine venues involved in the first phase, and the next goal is to include La Laguna.
Involvement of the nightlife sector
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, thanked the establishments for their “involvement and commitment to making their venues safer and free from sexual violence.” She emphasized that “the involvement of the nightlife sector is essential to move towards an island where all women can enjoy these spaces with freedom, peace, and confidence.”
“The inclusion of these five establishments confirms that the protocol continues to grow and consolidate,” said Patricia León, insular director of Equality and Diversity. “Our goal is to continue expanding the network to other municipalities and for more venues to join this initiative.”
The addition of these five venues is the result of joint work between the Cabildo and the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which approved their incorporation into the protocol last February. For the residents of the capital, this means that when going out, they will find more places where the staff is prepared to act in any incident.
The initiative makes Tenerife a benchmark in the protection of women in leisure spaces. Those interested in learning more details can consult the Cabildo's website or ask directly at the participating venues.
