The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and taxi drivers have agreed that citizens can park their vehicles at taxi stands during the night, from 21:00 to 5:00 or from 22:00 to 6:00, except in areas near hotels and hospitals.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Mobility department, has reached a preliminary agreement with the taxi associations Élite and La Gremial to allow citizens to park their private vehicles at taxi stands during the night. This measure, which will be implemented gradually, aims to alleviate the shortage of parking spaces in the capital of Tenerife.
Timings and excluded areas
As explained by the president of La Gremial, Zebenzuí Pérez, taxi stands will be open for citizen parking during time slots ranging from 21:00 to 5:00 or from 22:00 to 6:00, depending on the location. Stands located in front of central hotels, such as the Taburiente or the Inside, as well as those in health areas, will be excluded, as they are considered "sensitive areas" and remain active 24 hours a day.
“The sector has taken into account the need for residents to find parking, so we are determined to collaborate with the community and help alleviate the problem caused by the lack of spaces,” highlighted Zebenzuí Pérez.
Negotiation at the Taxi Table
The initiative, which began at the proposal of the previous taxi delegate councillor, Evelyn Alonso, has been taken up by the current councillor Gladis de León, who has continued the discussions. At the recent Taxi Table held last week, the working group made it clear that they are committed to adjusting the hours of stands without night activity so they can be shared with citizens.
The agreement is pending finalising the details at the stands of central hotels, but the City Council is confident that it will be concluded soon. The implementation will be carried out gradually, starting with areas of lower night activity.
Impact on residents
This measure will provide relief for residents of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, who often face difficulties parking at night. It is estimated that hundreds of taxi spaces will be available for private vehicles during night hours, which will reduce pressure on regulated parking areas. Residents should pay attention to the signage indicating the permitted hours at each stand.
The City Council reminds that during the day, the stands will continue to be for taxi use only, and drivers who park outside the authorised hours may be fined. It is recommended to consult the information panels that will be installed at the affected stands.
