Public transport in the Tenerife capital has gained 389,347 more users in the first half of 2026. The City Council plans to incorporate 61 new buses to strengthen the service.
The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, celebrated on Thursday the passenger data for the urban bus service corresponding to the first half of 2026. The service has recorded an increase of 4.6% compared to the same period last year, which translates to 389,347 additional passengers. According to the City Council, these figures consolidate the trend of growth in public transport in the capital.
A growth that supports sustainable mobility policies
For the council, the increase in users confirms that the measures implemented to promote more efficient and sustainable mobility are yielding results. Bermúdez pointed out that the trust of citizens in the urban bus as an option for their daily commutes continues to rise. “The continuous improvements applied to the service are helping public transport to consolidate as an increasingly used alternative,” he stated.
“Santa Cruz de Tenerife consolidates the positive evolution of its urban transport, reinforcing the role of the bus as a fundamental axis of mobility in the city,” the mayor highlighted.
The City Council attributes this growth to the actions taken to improve the quality and efficiency of the service, such as optimising frequencies and expanding routes. For the residents of the capital, this means a greater transport offer and a real alternative to private vehicles, resulting in savings on fuel and reduced emissions.
The fleet will be reinforced with 61 new buses
The council plans to continue modernising urban transport by incorporating 61 new vehicles.
