The call for applications, endowed with €500,000 which can be increased, has generated great interest among individuals and companies. Registrations of electric vehicles have grown by 31% on the island.
The Cabildo of La Gomera has already received more than fifty applications for grants to purchase electric vehicles and charging points. The initiative, which started with an initial budget of €500,000, could be expanded to €900,000 to meet demand.
A commitment to sustainable mobility
The island president, Casimiro Curbelo, has positively assessed the response from citizens and businesses. “The goal is to respond to existing demand and continue to facilitate access to electric mobility solutions for individuals, freelancers, and companies,” he stated.
Since 2020, 127 electric vehicles have been registered on the island. With this initiative, registrations have experienced a 31% increase, reflecting a growing interest in sustainable mobility in La Gomera.
Three lines of aid tailored to different profiles
The first line is aimed at individuals and companies for the purchase of 100% electric vehicles. Grants can reach up to €12,000 for cars, vans, or light trucks, and up to €3,000 for motorcycles and mopeds. In no case does the aid exceed 40% of the market price.
The second line is directed at professionals in passenger transport by road. For passenger vehicles with up to eight seats, the maximum aid is €10,000, while for those with more than eight seats intended for discretionary transport, it can reach €30,000.
The third line supports the installation of charging infrastructure. Up to 50% of the cost (max. €1,500) is subsidised for points in fleet garages; up to 60% (max. €700) for single-family homes; and up to 60% (max. €1,500) for community garages for private use.
These grants are compatible with other subsidies, provided that the total sum does not exceed 100% of the cost of the action.
A boost for the energy transition on the island
Curbelo has reminded that these grants “are a useful tool to support citizens in the energy transition process.” The initiative aims to modernise the island's vehicle fleet and reduce polluting emissions.
