The State Meteorological Agency forecasts clear skies for this Monday in Tenerife, with light haze at altitude and moderate trade winds with strong gusts in the southeast and northwest. Temperatures will reach 30 degrees in Santa Cruz and in areas of the south.
Monday starts in Tenerife with stable weather, but with two clear protagonists: the trade winds, which will blow strongly in parts of the southeast and the extreme northwest, and the light haze that will tint the sky a murky tone during the central hours. According to the Aemet forecast, thermometers will reach 30 degrees in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and on the southern coasts of the metropolitan area, while in the rest of the island, temperatures will remain largely unchanged.
Light haze at altitude and clear skies in most of the island
The haze will not be intense at the surface, but it will be noticeable at higher levels. Aemet warns that the atmosphere will be somewhat murky, although without significant reductions in visibility. In the north, cloudy intervals will be more frequent during the morning and at the end of the day, with clear spells in the central hours. In the rest of Tenerife, the skies will be mostly clear or sunny.
The west of the island will be under the influence of sea breezes, a typical situation when the trade winds blow strongly on the northeast-facing slopes, leaving more sheltered areas downwind. In these areas, the wind will be lighter and temperatures slightly milder.
Very strong gusts in the southeast and extreme northwest
The wind will be the most prominent feature of the day. Aemet forecasts moderate trade winds with strong intervals in the low areas of the southeast and the extreme northwest of Tenerife. Very strong gusts are not ruled out, especially in the early hours and at the end of the day. They could also be recorded on the southern slope of the metropolitan area during the last hours of Monday.
This behaviour is typical of reinforced trade wind situations, when acceleration concentrates in corridors and exposed areas. Residents of municipalities such as El Rosario or La Orotava in their higher zones should secure objects on terraces and balconies.
Gran Canaria, the hottest in the archipelago with up to 34 degrees
Across the Canary Islands, the day will be similar, with mostly clear skies and light haze at altitude. The highest temperatures are expected in Gran Canaria, where the southern and western slopes could reach or exceed locally 32 to 34 degrees. In Lanzarote, the southeast could reach 30 degrees, and in Fuerteventura, the southern half will also reach those values. In La Gomera, maximums will hover around 30 degrees in the southern and western interior, and a similar situation could occur in La Palma.
For residents in Tenerife, Monday will be a day to enjoy the good weather, but with caution due to wind gusts in exposed areas. Aemet recommends checking the forecast updates throughout the day, especially if planning outdoor activities in the southeast or northwest of the island.
