Aemet forecasts temperatures of up to 31 degrees in Tenerife this Saturday, with cloudy skies along the coasts that will tend to clear. The Canary Islands Government will activate a heat pre-alert from 08:00 on Sunday across the archipelago.
The thermometers in Tenerife will once again show summer-like figures this Saturday, with maximums reaching 31 degrees in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The island, along with Lanzarote, will be the hottest in the archipelago on a day when minimum temperatures will be around 21 degrees.
The heat, moreover, will not be a one-day affair. The Canary Islands Government has announced that from 08:00 on Sunday, it will activate a heat pre-alert across the archipelago, a measure that will remain in place until further notice. The decision responds to the forecast that thermometers will continue to rise over the coming days, especially in inland and mid-altitude areas.
Cloudy skies in the morning and light northwesterly winds
Saturday will start with cloudy skies along the coasts of Tenerife, particularly on the northern slope, where clouds may persist until noon. From then on, the sun will prevail and the sky will be mostly clear or sunny in the rest of the island.
The wind will blow lightly from the northwest during the morning, with breezes predominating in the central hours of the day. By night, the wind is expected to intensify slightly in the northeastern and southwestern extremes, while in the peaks it will be moderate from the south.
For those with outdoor plans, the recommendation is clear: constant hydration and to avoid the hours of greatest sun exposure, especially between 12:00 and 17:00. The pre-alert on Sunday does not imply restrictions, but it does call for caution, especially among the most vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and children.
The heat spreads across the archipelago
The situation is not exclusive to Tenerife. In La Gomera, temperatures will range between 22 and 29 degrees, with cloudy intervals along the coasts giving way to clear skies. In La Palma, maximums will rise slightly in inland areas, while minimums will drop a few degrees, leaving a similar range.
Across all the islands, the pattern repeats: morning clouds on the northern coast, light northwesterly winds, and slightly rising temperatures. Aemet notes that the anticyclone continues to dominate the weather in the Canaries, with a mass of warm air particularly affecting the eastern islands and the south of Tenerife.
For the average resident, this translates to beach days and terraces, but also to the need to stay alert to updates from Aemet and warnings from authorities. The pre-alert on Sunday is a reminder that summer has arrived to stay, at least for now.
The forecast for the coming days indicates that temperatures will remain high, with no abrupt changes expected until the middle of next week. However, the wind could pick up in some areas, which will at least alleviate the feeling of sultriness during the hottest hours.
