AFAMCA is organizing a meeting on July 24 at the Palace of Training and Congresses in Fuerteventura for people who care for dependents in a non-professional capacity.

People who care for dependent family members in a non-professional manner will be able to share experiences and learn useful tools at the 'Cuida+ Voces que Cuidan' day, which will take place on July 24, 2026 at the Palace of Training and Congresses in Fuerteventura. The event, organized by the Association of Family Members and Caregivers of Alzheimer’s Patients and Other Dementias of the Canary Islands (AFAMCA), comes after a postponement of the initial date.

A space for recognition and mutual support

The day is designed as a meeting point where non-professional caregivers can reflect on their work and feel valued. AFAMCA aims to highlight the fundamental role these individuals play daily, often without sufficient support. The exchange of experiences and peer support will be the focus of an initiative that also seeks to raise awareness in society about the reality many families face in Fuerteventura and the rest of the archipelago.

According to the organization, the event aims to provide a space where attendees feel heard and supported. The scheduled activities include group dynamics and talks led by professionals from the social and health fields, although the detailed program has not yet been made public.

How to register and more information

Those interested in participating can now formalize their registration through the QR code appearing on the event poster. They can also request more information by calling 684 77 00 16 or writing to fuerteventura@afamcatenerife.org. The organization encourages all caregivers on the island to join this free event, which is publicly funded.

The meeting is part of a socially beneficial project funded by the Government of the Canary Islands, charged to the tax allocation of the IRPF, through the Department of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Disability. This funding allows the initiative to be accessible to all caregivers on the island, at no cost to attendees.

For the residents of Fuerteventura, this day represents a unique opportunity to train and connect with others facing similar situations. Caring for a dependent family member can be a lonely and exhausting task, and events like this remind them that they are not alone.

The event is on July 24 at the Palace of Training and Congresses in Fuerteventura. Those wishing to attend must register in advance. Don’t miss the chance to value your work and take away resources that will make daily life easier.
