The Insular Youth Centre of Puerto del Rosario hosted the Fuerteventura Champions Gala, where the Las Palmas Motorsport Federation awarded over fifteen athletes for their achievements in 2025.

The roar of engines was silenced for one night at the Insular Youth Centre of Puerto del Rosario. There, the Las Palmas Motorsport Federation (FALP) celebrated the Fuerteventura Champions Gala, an event that marked the end of the 2025 season and recognised the drivers, co-drivers, and teams that have carried the island's name throughout the archipelago.

An Evening of Emotions and Recognitions

The event was attended by Dani Ponce, president of the FALP; Miguel Ángel Domínguez, head of the Canary Islands Motorsport Federation; and Luis González, sports councillor of the Insular Council of Fuerteventura. The three agreed on highlighting the excellent moment motorsport is experiencing on the island.

“Fuerteventura has once again demonstrated that it has an extraordinary talent pool. Its drivers, co-drivers, teams, and clubs are a reference for the entire archipelago,” Ponce stated during his speech.

The gala began with the awards for the Inter-Island Slalom Championship of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, in its single-seater category, and concluded with the Insular Championship of Fuerteventura for touring cars. The latter was the most fiercely contested event in the Canary Islands: the top two finishers ended up tied on points.

More than a dozen athletes took to the stage to collect their awards. Among them were the drivers who have excelled in various categories, as well as the teams representing Fuerteventura beyond the islands.

National and International Projection

The FALP also wanted to highlight those who are taking the island's name to national competitions. Daniel Pérez and Alain González shared their experiences in the Sandero Eco Cup Spain, a single-make series that has propelled them onto the national scene. Meanwhile, Virginia de León recounted the sensations conveyed by the Toyota Yaris Rally5-Kit of the Kobe Motor Rallyes Cup.

Councillor Luis González wanted to emphasise the work of all the awardees: “These awards reflect the effort and dedication of our athletes. Fuerteventura continues to be a breeding ground for talent in motorsport.”

For motorsport fans in Fuerteventura, the gala was not just a closing event but a preview of what is to come. The 2026 season will kick off in two weeks with the 13th Ascent to Betancuria. One of the highlights will be the 37th Rallye de La Oliva, which this year debuts as an international event and will feature the participation of world-class driver Yohan Rossel.

Majorero Motorsport at Its Best

The Fuerteventura Champions Gala made it clear that motorsport on the island is thriving. The combination of talent, experience, and external projection positions Fuerteventura as a reference in the regional landscape. Local drivers not only compete but also inspire new generations with their passion.

For the residents of Puerto del Rosario and the rest of the island, the motor racing scene is more alive than ever. The upcoming Ascent to Betancuria promises thrilling emotions, and the Rallye de La Oliva, with its new international status, will attract the attention of the entire motorsport community. Undoubtedly, 2026 will be a year not to be missed.
