The business community of Fuerteventura has once again placed its trust in Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal, who will lead the chamber institution until 2030. The new mandate begins with projects such as the Vivero de Empresas 4.0 and the Antena Cameral de Pájara.
Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal has been re-elected as president of the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce for a second term that will extend until 2030. The constitutive session, held at the entity's headquarters, was attended by the Deputy Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs of the Canary Islands Government, Felipe Afonso El Jaber, who approved the new composition of the governing bodies.
A renewed team for the next four years
The plenary of the Chamber is made up of 24 members: 16 elected by vote among the companies, four representing the most representative intersectoral business organizations on the island, and another four corresponding to companies of voluntary contribution. The Executive Committee, responsible for daily management, is presided over by Rodríguez Marichal, accompanied by Yasmina Newport as first vice president, Soledad Monzón as second vice president, Juan Tomás Figueroa as third vice president, and Miguel Ángel Rodríguez as treasurer. José Tomás Armas serves as treasurer substitute and Ylenia Alonso as member.
For the business community of Fuerteventura, this continuity in the presidency represents a commitment to stability and experience. The Chamber, which represents the interests of thousands of companies on the island, faces a key period for economic diversification and the internationalization of the local productive fabric.
Flagship projects: Vivero 4.0 and Antena Cameral de Pájara
Rodríguez Marichal takes on the new mandate "with the same enthusiasm as when I started the first one and with the experience that these years of shared work bring." The chamber president has emphasized his goal of maintaining a close, useful, and open Chamber, capable of listening to companies and supporting entrepreneurs.
Among the planned actions is the upcoming opening of the Vivero de Empresas 4.0, currently under construction, a space designed to house startups and promote innovation. Additionally, the launch of the new Antena Cameral de Pájara is scheduled for this July. This antenna will decentralize chamber services and bring the institution closer to entrepreneurs in the south of the island.
Another strategic focus will be the promotion of Fuerteventura's external projection, with special attention to West Africa. In this context, the celebration of Africagua Canarias 2027 in Senegal has been announced, a forum aimed at strengthening economic and commercial ties with the neighbouring continent.
A second term with challenges and opportunities
The re-election of Rodríguez Marichal comes at a time when the economy of Fuerteventura seeks to consolidate its recovery after the effects of the pandemic and inflation. Tourism remains the main driving force, but the Chamber insists on the need to diversify into sectors such as renewable energies, quality agriculture, or the blue economy.
For the island's entrepreneurs, continuity in the presidency provides predictability. "We know his management style and we know he bets on dialogue," business community sources state. The new executive committee will have to deal with challenges such as the lack of industrial land, bureaucracy, or the need to attract external investments.
The constitutive session, presided over by Deputy Minister Felipe Afonso, certified the legality of the process and paved the way for the swearing-in of the new positions. The Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce thus becomes one of the first in the Canary Islands to renew its leadership for the upcoming four-year term.
The event concluded with a call for public-private collaboration. Rodríguez Marichal insisted that the Chamber must be "a bridge between companies and administrations" and promised to work so that Fuerteventura "is a place where entrepreneurship becomes easier every day."
