Karin H.S. publishes a video with manipulated images in which he describes Puerto del Rosario as the Canary capital of cocaine and crime. The Town Hall is considering legal action due to the damage to the city's image.
The YouTuber Karin H.S., with a marked Castilian accent, has published a video in which he claims that Puerto del Rosario is the most dangerous city in the Canary Islands. In the recording, which has already amassed thousands of views, he asserts that the capital of Fuerteventura is the capital of cocaine and that a gang of youths terrorises the citizens. All this to promote a tourist guide that he himself sells.
In the video, the content creator claims that "it pisses him off" to speak like this about the Canaries "because it is his land." However, he does not hesitate to label Puerto del Rosario as a place that tourists should avoid. The images he shows, according to municipal sources, are manipulated and do not correspond to the reality of the city.
The Jacosos Gang, a Fabrication to Generate Fear
One of the most serious points in the video is the mention of the Jacosos gang, which he describes as "one of the most aggressive criminal gangs in the Canaries, dedicated to extortion, drug trafficking, and the assault of bungalows and tourist villas." Sources from the National Police confirm that there is no criminal group by that name on the island. It is a fabrication by the YouTuber to lend credibility to his narrative.
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, has described the video as "dirty marketing" and announced that the Town Hall is considering legal action. "This is not freedom of expression; it is defamation and threatens the economic engine of our city: tourism," he stated. The city, which welcomes thousands of visitors each year, sees its safety questioned without any real basis.
The Viral Trick: From Fear to Selling Guides
The video, which lasts nearly ten minutes, follows a classic structure of content creators seeking virality: it first generates alarm with shocking claims and, in the end, offers a solution: the tourist guide that Karin H.S. himself sells. "The use of irony at this point is already quite far from the terrifying message conveyed," say sources from the Fuerteventura Business Association.
For the residents of Puerto del Rosario, the damage is already done. María, a local resident, asserts that "it's a lie; life here is peaceful, but people from outside believe it." Negative virality, as online reputation experts remind us, always weighs millions of times more than positive. The YouTuber, who has thousands of followers on his networks, has achieved his goal: to get people talking about him.
The Town Hall is Not Sitting Idly By
The local council has already contacted a law firm to assess a lawsuit for defamation and damage to the city's image. Additionally, it has launched a social media campaign with the hashtag #PuertoDelRosarioEsSeguro to counteract the falsehoods. "We will not allow a unscrupulous YouTuber to destroy years of hard work from an entire city," stated the Tourism councillor.
Meanwhile, hoteliers and business owners in the area are calling for calm. Crime rates in Puerto del Rosario are well below the national average, according to the latest data from the Ministry of the Interior. The city, with about 30,000 inhabitants, is one of the safest in the Canaries.
The video remains online, but the Town Hall hopes that the platforms will act on the complaints regarding false content. Meanwhile, the residents of Fuerteventura wonder how far the greed of a few will go to make money at the expense of lies.
