The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the SIPA, will hold the workshop 'The Addict's Brain' on Thursday, July 23, aimed at public and private healthcare technical staff.

The Addiction Information and Prevention Service (SIPA) of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura has organised a training action that will address addiction from a neurobiological, social, and anthropological perspective. The workshop, titled 'The Addict's Brain', will take place next Thursday, July 23, from 09:00 to 14:00 hours.

The activity will be led by health psychologist Romen Hernández Díaz, who will guide participants through a methodology that combines theory with practical dynamics and shared reflection. The aim is for professionals to acquire new tools for intervention in addictions.

Who is the training aimed at?

The workshop is designed for the healthcare technical staff on the island, both from the public sector and the social and private fabric. Registration is free and can be done through an online form provided by the Cabildo.

The island's councillor for Social Action, Víctor Alonso, has highlighted that the initiative aims to “raise awareness of addiction from different perspectives to develop new intervention strategies aimed at recovering will, autonomy, and personal transformation capacity.”

Active and experimental methodology

According to Alonso, the training will be delivered using an “active and experimental” methodology, where participants will work with practical cases and group dynamics. “The new reality being generated and the new behaviours in society mean that administrations must provide the necessary tools to implement and assist everyone,” he added.

The Cabildo emphasises that this training is key for professionals to identify the social and anthropological factors that influence addictive behaviour, thus improving care for individuals with addiction problems on the island.

For the residents of Fuerteventura, this initiative represents a step forward in the prevention and treatment of addictions, as trained professionals will be able to apply this knowledge in their daily work, directly benefiting the community.

Interested individuals can register until the same day of the workshop, as long as there are available spots. The link to the form is available on the Cabildo of Fuerteventura's website.
