The Brazilian trio, finalists of the TV Globo show 'Em Família com Eliana', presents their first album 'El arranque' at the Cine Atlántida in Arrecife on July 23.
The Guedes Brothers, the Brazilian musical trio that has captivated millions of viewers as finalists of the TV Globo talent show 'Em Família com Eliana', are coming to Lanzarote to offer a unique concert. It will take place on July 23 at 20:30 at the Cine Atlántida in Arrecife, where they will present their first album, 'El arranque', recorded with the renowned guitarist Yamandú Costa.
A century-old musical lineage
Siblings Anahy (vocals), Andresito (accordion and vocals), and Karaí Guedes (guitar and vocals) come from a family with over a century of musical tradition. Their grandfather, Chico Guedes, was a missionary accordionist, and their father, Jorge, is a reference in the music of Rio Grande do Sul, where gaucho, Guaraní, and European cultures converge. Karaí Guedes describes this heritage as “a family curse,” and claims he was born with a guitar glued to his body.
In their hometown, Sao Luis Gonzaga, their father built a shed with a small stage that hosted musicians, poets, and painters. There, the siblings grew up playing for visitors from all over. The group, previously known as Jorge Guedes & Family, has kept alive that musical essence that blends gaucho, Guaraní, Spanish, and German roots.
From Brazil to Lanzarote: an international tour
Before arriving on the island, the Guedes Brothers performed at the Arte entre Gigantes Festival in Campo de Criptana, where they also held a master class. Their tour began in Mexico and, after Lanzarote, they will perform in Tenerife, at the Flamenco Festival of Corcho Valle del Genal (Málaga) and at the International Festival Le Temps des Guitares (France), among others.
Last year they were already in Spain, where they shared the stage with artists such as Josemi Carmona, Pastora Vega, and Pablo Alborán. Karaí Guedes confessed that flamenco reached him through Paco de Lucía, who is highly respected in Brazil, and that he is interested in Canarian folklore. “We almost have more Spanish influence than Brazilian,” he stated in an interview.
“Still in shock from experiencing the talent of Karaí Guedes up close: his way of playing the guitar, his overflowing technique, his superhuman control of dynamics and volumes,” wrote Radio 3 presenter Ángel Carmona.
A concert to enjoy root music
The concert repertoire will include tracks from 'El arranque', an album that reflects the fusion of rhythms from southern Brazil, with influences from Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. Tickets are already on sale at ecoentradas.com for a price of 20 euros, and a large turnout is expected from those interested in Brazilian root music.
For guitar enthusiasts, Karaí Guedes is known for his three-finger picking technique, a personal variation of Paco de Lucía's style. On YouTube, there are videos where he explains this technique, which he himself defines as “lazy,” but which impresses with its precision and speed.
Anahy Guedes emphasizes that, while they preserve their roots, they also seek freedom to explore new influences. The concert promises to be an intimate and vibrant experience, where the audience can enjoy the warmth of Brazilian music in a cinematic setting.
