The Lanzarote native Amaira Cedrés has made history by winning the title of Mrs. Global Universe at the final gala held on July 11 in Singapore. The visibly emotional winner confessed that she did not expect the award and proudly represents Spain, the Canaries, and especially her home island, Lanzarote.
A dream come true after an unexpected call
Cedrés, who had already been a finalist in the national phase, received the news of her international participation in a surprising manner. “The winner could not go to Singapore due to her circumstances. I was next in line, and sometimes things happen for a reason,” she explained in an interview with Crónicas Radio. The Lanzarote native expressed feeling “very proud” to have taken the name of the Canaries and Lanzarote to the highest level.
The contest, organised by Lumiere International Pageantry, is aimed at married, divorced women or mothers, and values maturity, social projection, and community impact. Cedrés stood out not only for her elegance but also for her career as an activist and local role model.
From Carnival queen to global ambassador
This is not the first recognition for Amaira Cedrés. In 1999, she was crowned Carnival Queen of Arrecife, a milestone that made her a well-known face on the island. Now, as Mrs. Global Universe, she will act as an ambassador for the contest and participate in promotional, social, and representative activities during her reign.
For the residents of Lanzarote, this triumph is a source of pride and a demonstration that talent and humility can achieve international goals. Cedrés, who describes herself as “a very humble person,” has shown that with perseverance, great dreams can be realised.
The new Mrs. Global Universe is already planning her agenda as an ambassador, with trips and events that will promote values such as female leadership and solidarity. Her next commitment will be a tour of several Spanish cities to share her experience.
