The Yaiza Town Hall has installed new street vendor stalls for the Playa Quemada Festival, which will be held from August 15 to 18. The stalls will offer local products and crafts.

The municipality of Yaiza is finalising preparations for the Playa Quemada Festival, which this year will feature a notable new addition: the installation of new street vendor stalls. The Town Hall has arranged 12 wooden modules along the promenade, which will host local artisans and producers during the four days of celebration.

Support for local commerce during the festival

The stalls, with a uniform design and 2.5 meters wide, have been made from sustainable materials and feature LED lighting. According to the Councillor for Festivities, the initiative aims to "boost the local economy and provide residents and visitors with a more complete experience." The selected vendors, chosen through a public draw, will pay a reduced fee of 50 euros for the entire event.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, highlighted that "these stalls are an example of how festivals can be a driving force for small businesses in the municipality." The installation has involved an investment of 8,000 euros, funded by municipal resources.

Programme for the Playa Quemada Festival

The festivities will kick off on August 15 with the traditional maritime procession in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, followed by a popular dance. On Saturday the 16th, the Neighbour's Day will be celebrated, featuring children's activities and a giant free paella. Sunday the 17th will be the youth night, with concerts from local bands and DJs. On Monday the 18th, the closing day will include a foam party and the award ceremony for the photography contest.

The new stalls will be operational from 10:00 to 22:00 hours each day, except on Sunday when they will close at 02:00 hours. A continuous cleaning service has been planned to maintain the surroundings. The Town Hall recommends the use of public transport or the designated parking areas at the entrance of the town.

Reactions and expectations

The Playa Quemada Neighbourhood Association has positively evaluated the initiative. Its president, María Rodríguez, stated that "the stalls bring life to the promenade and prevent the installation of makeshift stands." Local artisans, for their part, hope that sales will exceed last year's, when a total of 15,000 euros in revenue was achieved.

The Town Council has reminded that the stalls comply with all health and safety regulations. Those interested in obtaining a license for future editions can inquire at the Citizen Attention Office of the Yaiza Town Hall.
