Puerto Rican Chayanne performed in Tenerife again after more than 15 years, on the second day of the Cook Music Fest held in Santa Cruz. Thousands of fans sang along to his classics like 'Torero' and 'Salomé'.
The clock struck 22:31 when the first chords of Salomé echoed in the Cook Music Fest venue in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Chayanne, true to his punctuality, appeared dressed in strict black and unleashed euphoria among the tens of thousands of attendees who packed the space. It was his return to the island after more than 15 years, since that performance at the 2008 Carnival.
A repertoire that combines classics and new hits
Without barely a breath, the Puerto Rican singer linked Boom boom, another of his great hits, and demonstrated why he remains one of the most beloved artists in the Latin scene. “Good evening my beautiful people, what a great pleasure, after so long,” he greeted the audience, who responded with cheers and applause. Chayanne moved among the attendees, jumped and danced until Tenerife surrendered at his feet.
The concert was part of his Bailemos otra vez tour, with plans to visit Barcelona, Valencia, Vigo, and Cádiz. The repertoire combined classics like Torero or Y tú te vas with more recent tracks like Bailando bachata, making the audience sing along to every song. “Send me, for I do not obey,” the artist joked, eliciting laughter from the attendees.
Olga Tañón and Gente de Zona complete the evening
The second day of the Cook Music Fest featured more than just Chayanne. Olga Tañón, known as 'The Woman of Fire', once again showcased her strength and talent on stage. The festival presented her with an award for her five consecutive years performing at the event, becoming a classic face of the summer gathering. The Puerto Rican introduced the young Carmen Ferrer, with whom she sang the song Lo bonito that they have recorded together.
Closing the night was Gente de Zona with their “great Latin party,” treating the Tenerife audience to hits like Bailando, La Gozadera, and Traidora, mixed with songs from their album Reparto by Gente de Zona. The Cuban duo maintained the energy until the end, getting the attendees dancing.
Don Omar also left a mark on the festival
The fifth edition of the Cook Music Fest kicked off on Friday with Don Omar, who headlined one of the most anticipated concerts. Hours after performing anthems like Pobre diabla or Dale Don Dale, the singer thanked his fans for the warmth received through social media. He recalled visiting Tenerife for the first time 22 years ago “with the dream of bringing reggaeton to new lands.” The festival, held in the Santa Cruz venue, has established itself as an unmissable summer event in the Canary Islands.
For the island's residents, the Cook Music Fest represents a unique opportunity to enjoy great international artists without leaving home. The organisers expect that the turnout has exceeded expectations, with full houses on both days. The festival concludes this Sunday with more performances, wrapping up an edition that will go down in history for the long-awaited return of Chayanne.
