The Department of Education and Youth organises four family routes with oral storytelling, music, and healthy breakfasts in locations such as the historic centre, Camino de La Punta, Los Valles, and El Polvorín.

The City Council of La Laguna has launched a new edition of Cuenteando, a family leisure programme that turns summer Sundays into an outdoor adventure. The initiative, driven by the Department of Education and Youth led by Sergio Eiroa, combines hiking, storytelling, live music, and healthy breakfasts in four emblematic corners of the municipality.

Four routes for all ages

The programme started on June 28 in the historic centre of La Laguna, and continues on July 19 at Camino de La Punta, August 2 at Los Valles, and concludes on August 30 at Parque El Polvorín in Taco. Each trail lasts approximately two hours and has a low difficulty level, designed for participation from the youngest to the grandparents.

As explained by Councillor Sergio Eiroa, "Cuenteando perfectly represents the type of activities we want to promote from the City Council, that is, proposals that encourage family coexistence, contact with nature, and learning in a fun and participatory way." The councillor added that "each trail is much more than a route through the municipality; it is an opportunity to share quality time as a family."

Music, stories, and healthy breakfast

Throughout the route, participants enjoy oral storytelling and musical performances integrated into the itinerary, making the walk a cultural experience. At the end of each route, a healthy breakfast is offered to share as a family, promoting healthy lifestyle habits. "The fantastic reception it has received shows that families demand this type of outdoor initiative," Eiroa highlighted.

Each route has 60 places, which are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis once the registration period opens. Interested parties can check schedules, meeting points, and other organisational details on the project's website. Registrations are staggered for each trail.

For the residents of La Laguna, this proposal represents a free and accessible leisure alternative, allowing them to discover places like Camino de La Punta or Parque El Polvorín from a different perspective. Additionally, it promotes intergenerational coexistence and enjoyment of the municipality's natural heritage.

This year's edition, which successfully began on June 28, has managed to bring together entire families in a playful and educational environment. Those who miss out still have time to sign up for the upcoming dates: July 19, August 2, and August 30. However, spots fill up quickly: it's best not to sleep on it.
