La Gomera participates as a guest island at the Tenerife Agro-Food Fair (FAGATE 2026), held from July 15 to 19 at the Casa del Ganadero in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. The Cabildo has set up its own stand under the brand Alimentos de La Gomera.

The Tenerife Agro-Food Fair (FAGATE) kicks off this Wednesday in La Laguna with a prestigious guest: La Gomera. The Columbian island will showcase its own stand under the label Alimentos de La Gomera until Sunday, presenting a collective display of the diversity and uniqueness of its products. Wines with Denomination of Origin, high-altitude coffee, mojos, cheeses, almogrotes, gofios, jams, mistela, gomerón, smoked preserves, honeys, and traditional pastries make up the offerings that the public can taste and learn about firsthand.

An Opportunity to Showcase Island Identity

The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, described the invitation as "an extraordinary opportunity to showcase an essential part of our identity: the work of those who keep the primary sector of the island alive." In his statements, he highlighted the efforts of farmers, fishermen, ranchers, beekeepers, winemakers, guaraperos, and small producers, whom he defined as "guardians of a legacy that has managed to combine tradition, effort, innovation, and respect for the territory."

The island councilor for the Primary Sector, Noelia Morales, emphasized that the Gomeran primary sector not only generates quality food but also helps preserve the landscape, sustain the local economy, and retain the population in the territory. "Participating in FAGATE allows us to share with Tenerife and the rest of the Canary Islands the quality of our products and the talent of those who make them possible, as well as continue opening up opportunities for promotion and marketing for the island's productions," she noted.

A Comprehensive Programme for All Audiences

The Gomeran presence is part of a broad programme that will combine livestock and native breed exhibitions, educational and training activities, gastronomic proposals, crafts, demonstrations linked to rural traditions, family workshops, and musical performances. FAGATE thus consolidates itself as a meeting point between producers, sector professionals, public administrations, and citizens.

For visitors from Tenerife, the fair represents a unique opportunity to experience the flavours of La Gomera without leaving the island. The stand of Alimentos de La Gomera will allow attendees to learn about the history, territory, and artisanal processes behind each product, from the coffee of the summits to gomerón, a traditional liqueur made from honey and aguardiente. Children will be able to participate in workshops for making gofio or cheese, while adults will enjoy guided tastings of wines from the Denomination of Origin La Gomera.

A Showcase for the Alimentos de La Gomera Brand

Participation in FAGATE will also serve to promote the values of the brand Alimentos de La Gomera, created to identify and support the origin, excellence, and authenticity of island productions. The stand, designed as an open and welcoming space, presents a collective image of the Gomeran agri-food sector and facilitates close interaction between the public and producers and their stories.

For those who cannot make it to La Laguna, the fair will also have a social media presence with the hashtag #FAGATE2026, where videos and interviews with key figures will be posted. The event, which runs until Sunday, July 19, promises to be a success with the public and a boost for the marketing of Gomeran products in Tenerife and the rest of the Archipelago.

In short, La Gomera arrives at FAGATE with the intention of demonstrating that, despite its size, its primary sector is a giant in quality and diversity. And it does so with the smile of those who know that what they offer is not just food, but also culture and landscape. Because, as the saying goes, "variety is the spice of life," and in La Gomera, flavour is cultivated with care from the land to the table.
